HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-15-2006WHITE RIVER VALEY HISTORICAL SOCIETY BOARD MINUTES February 15, 2006 Board Members Present: Pat Bailey, Ron Beyersdorf, Jan Cavanaugh, Nancy Colson, Terry Davis, Jean Farrington, Mike Gerber, Mike Harbin J., Warren Kinggeorge, Larry Miller, Janice Nelson, Gordy Nishimoto, Judi Roland, JB Rupert, Mae Yamada Board Members Absent: Dan Harris Board Members Excused: Doug Hedger Staff Members Present: Patricia Cosgrove, Kristen Bruhahn Call to Order & Approval of Minutes: President Larry called the meeting to order at 1:35. He asked for a motion for the approval of the minutes from the last meeting. Motion Passed. Treasury & Committee Reports: Acting Treasurer Larry Miller presented the Treasurers report. He He explained the reasons for the variances in the report. He reviewed the finance committees meeting and noted that an adjustment had been made to the 2006 budget to reflect the actual amount of the City of Auburn contributions. The 2004 surplus will be kept in reserve for the purchase of a dehumidifier in the future. The 2005 surplus of $3507 will also be held in reserve with the exception of $943.34 that will be used to close out a completed grant for Olson Farm. Jean Farrington agreed to ask the investment person in her office to advise us as to what we can invest our $24,000 that is now in a money market account. It was discussed that the committee will research their personal contacts to locate a public relation's possibility to promote the museum. It was also announced that Jane Gattavara had willed $20,000 to the Museum. Possible uses include new computers for the remaining staff members who are using very old equipment. An audit committee consisting of Gordy Nishimoto, Janice Nelson and Jean Farrington will audit the 2005 books. Harvest Ball Report: The ball will have a late 1940's theme. It will be held on Oct. 21 at the Sea Tac Double Tree. Auburn Regional Medical Center will again be our major sponsor. Save the date cards will be mailed around the 10th of March. Free Wednesday Committee Report: Ron Beyersdorf reported that Kristen will send us packets to mail along with a personal note to prospective possibilities. We all signed up for people to approach. It was noted that Wednesdays draw seniors, low income families, and groups and is three times as busy as the other open days. Public Relations Committee: Pat Bailey announced that we will co-host a Chamber Mixer with Comcast. Nancy Colson suggested that we get listed in the Seattle/King County convention and visitors bureau program. Staff Report: Patricia gave us an update of Other Peoples Money. She reviewed Grants and Appropriations. Tara reported on ideas to increase our number of visitors. Items included: Family Fun open houses, Books Bring History Alive aimed at pre-schoolers, story reading & crafts on Fridays. It was announced that Alyssa will not be returning to work after her pregnancy. Therefore a position is open for the Curator of Collections. It will be handled by the Human Resources Department of the City. The Senators and Representatives as well as King Count Councilman Peter von Reichbauer have toured Olsen Farm in hopes of getting both Federal and King County grants or appropriations.
