HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-15-2006WHITE RIVER VALEY HISTORICAL SOCIETY BOARD MINUTES March 15, 2006 Board Members Present: Pat Bailey, Ron Beyersdorf, Jan Cavanaugh, Nancy Colson, Jean Farrington, Mike Harbin J., Warren Kinggeorge, Michelle Marshman, Larry Miller, Janice Nelson, Gordy Nishimoto, Judi Roland, JB Rupert Board Members Absent: Dan Harris, Tammy Balint, Mae Yamada Board Members Excused: Doug Hedger, Mike Gerber Staff Members Present: Patricia Cosgrove, Kristen Bruhahn Call to Order & Approval of Minutes: President Larry called the meeting to order at 1:35. He asked for a motion for the approval of the minutes from the last meeting. Motion Passed. Chair Report: The Long Range Planning Task Force will take a number of meetings to go through the entire plan. Among other goals the committee is reviewing are ways to earn revenue at the Mary Olson Farm. It was announced that there are several qualified applicants for the position of Curator of Collections and that interviews will begin next week. Treasury & Committee Reports: Acting Treasurer Larry Miller presented the Treasurers report. The net loss as of 2-28-06 was ($1853.) • Gordy Nishimoto reported that the Audit committee met on March 6t" and congratulated Kristen of a great job done. They did have a few small recommendations. • Ron Beyersdorf reported that the free Wednesdays have netted $1850 in sponsorships. • Judi Roland announced that a "save the date" postcard is going out for the Harvest Ball. She also indicated that the 40's theme was focusing on the "new era" part of the 40's. • Jean Farrington reported that the Finance committee is looking into investments that would yield $1400 per year. Sterling Savings is putting forth a proposal that we invest in Oppenheimer funds as they are safe and you can move the funds around to get the best return. This will be discussed at the next Finance committee meeting. Staff Report: Patricia reported that the Steam Engine 2152 located in Veteran's Park will be removed. The City sent out requests for proposals to regional railroad museums and got three proposals. The Northern Pacific Railroad Museum of Toppenish has been chosen to receive the Steam Engine, because they are familiar with the model and what it takes to rebuild one and they will put it to better and public use. Mary Olson Farm Capital Campaign: Holly Taylor and Patricia reviewed how a capital campaign is formulated and explained the pyramid of fundraising. They outlined the Board's involvement: Steer the campaign, identify prospects, donate or support, ask for donations, and learn about the Case; why this is important. After much discussion, Ron Beyersdorf moved to table this discussion and continue it at the next board meeting. This motion was seconded by Gordy Nishimoto, and passed.
