HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-17-2006WHITE RIVER VALEY HISTORICAL SOCIETY BOARD MINUTES May 17, 2006 Board Members Present: Pat Bailey, Ron Beyersdorf, Jan Cavanaugh, Nancy Colson, Terry Davis, Mike Gerber, Warren Kinggeorge, Michelle Marshman, Larry Miller, Janice Nelson, Gordy Nishimoto, Judi Roland, Board Members Absent: J.B.Rupert, Dan Harris Board Members Excused: Jean Farrington, Doug Hedger, Mike Harbin Jr., Mae Yamada Staff Members Present: Patricia Cosgrove, Kristen Bruhahn, Nora Hawkins Call to Order & Approval of Minutes: President Larry called the meeting to order at 1:35. He asked for a motion for the approval of the minutes from the last meeting. Motion Passed with corrections. Dan Harris was not at last meeting and Warren Kinggeorge is monitoring the Mary Olson Farm south meadow, not doing an archaeological survey. Chair & Vice Chair Reports: Gordy Nishimoto spoke about the receiving of the John D. Spellman Award for Historical Preservation and said it was a good experience. He also reported of the Cinco de Mayo Event put on by the Parks Department. The event attracted a large crowd of about 1500. The Museum had 140 people go through in 2 hours. He said it was very hectic but fun! Treasury & Committee Reports: Acting Treasurer Larry Miller presented the Treasurers report. As of April 30, 2006 our monthly income was a positive $496 with year to date a loss of ($1399). Larry asked for a motion to accept the report. Motion Passed. Patricia noted that an operational grant for $6500 from 4-culture will show on next months report. Harvest Ball Committee: Judi Roland reported that the committee is meeting after our monthly meeting and they are working on a flyer for the July newsletter. They will have a listing of prospective sponsors soon and decorations are coming along. Long Range Planning Committee: Terry Davis reported that the committee wishes to go over the long-range plan in segments. Each segment will be brought before the board and discussed, then voted on. Olsen Farm: Patricia reported that the 5th state grant has been turned in for funding in 2007- 2008. We are asking for $245,000 to restore the Mary Olson Farmhouse. Holly Taylor did most of the writing for that grant. This is a Heritage Capital Project Fund and we will hear of our ranking in late August. This application requires a 2-1 match with one of the match portions in cash. The City of Auburn has placed $245,000 in the Capital Facility Plan, available for match over 2007-09. Patricia also reported that Orkin pest control is spraying all the buildings, that EarthCorps removed blackberries from streamside and that the owner of Sumner Tractor, Mr. Mosby may be volunteering get the berries out of the south meadow, till it and plant hay. The Capital Campaign motion has been tabled until funding of staffing can be verified. Pat Bailey said the Hospital is putting the museum events in their newsletter and was wondering if other companies might be encouraged to do the same. Upcoming events: The quilting programs.
