BOARD MINUTES
June 21, 2006
Board Members Present: Pat Bailey, Ron Beyersdorf, Jan Cavanaugh, Nancy Colson, Terry Davis,
Mike Gerber, Jean Farrington, Warren Kinggeorge, Michelle Marshman, Larry Miller, Janice Nelson,
Gordy Nishimoto, Judi Roland, Mae Yamada

Staff Members Present: Patricia Cosgrove, Kristen Bruhahn, Nori Hawkins, Holly Taylor
Call to Order & Approval of Minutes: President Larry called the meeting to order at 1:35. He asked
for a motion for the approval of the minutes from the last meeting. Motion Passed.
Chair Reports: President Larry introduced and congratulated Mae Yamada on being chosen as the
Good Old Days Pioneer Queen. President Larry also announced that the Annual Fund Drive has netted
$5800 and is going well. President Larry told us that the U of W Marketing Department has chosen the
Museum as a class project. They will be meeting with museum staff next Wednesday to get started.
Treasury & Committee Reports: Acting Treasurer Larry Miller presented the Treasurers report. As of
May 31, 2006 our monthly income was a positive $1154 with year to date a loss of($244). Larry asked
for a motion to accept the report. Motion Passed. Patricia noted that the operational grant for $6500
from 4-Culture is now on the books.
Long Range Planning Committee: Michelle Marshman brought forth a segment of the Long Range
Plan for the Board to discuss. There are five segments we will be looking at: Museum Educational
Services, Preservation Projects, Community Relations, Museum Administration, & Farm Education.
Today we looked at the first of these, Museum Educational Services. We got only to discuss the first
three elements: Improve marketing of existing programs, Documenting heritage though publications
and Broaden adult educational offerings.
Olson Farm: Patricia reported that JB Rupert & Mike Harbin are meting with the Mayor next Monday to
ascertain the City of Auburn's timeline for supporting operations of the Farm. Nori Hawkins presented a
few of the Yamada Farm artifacts that were donated to the Museum by Mae's son Allen. All will be put
on display at the Olson Farm. Patricia reported that Orkin has fumigated all the buildings and that Burr
Mosby may be agreeing to plow and plant the south meadow. The Barn floor will be replaced and made
handicapped accessible.
Harvest Ball: Flyers and Table Sponsor forms were passed out. The flyer is going in the newsletter.
Mike Harbin is going to make copies of posters, etc. to use in the decorations.
State Grant Request: Holly said that our request has made it through the first cut. It was noted that
Board Members might be asked to meet with the legislatures to get our grant request fulfilled. Since it
is a matching grant, we would have $490,000 toward our goal of $960,000 in our capital campaign.
