HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-19-2006WHITE RIVER VALEY HISTORICAL SOCIETY BOARD MINUTES July 19, 2006 Board Members Present: Pat Bailey, Jan Cavanaugh, Nancy Colson, Terry Davis, Mike Gerber, Doug Hedger, Warren Kinggeorge, Larry Miller, Janice Nelson, Gordy Nishimoto, Judi Roland, JB Rupert Board Members Absent: Ron Beyersdorf, Dan Harris, Mike Harbin, Jr. Board Members Excused: Jean Farrington, Michelle Marshman, Mae Yamada Staff Members Present: Patricia Cosgrove, Tara McCauley, Holly Taylor Call to Order & Approval of Minutes: President Larry called the meeting to order at 1:35. He asked for a additions or corrections to the minutes from the last meeting. The corrections of Terry Davis as absent and Warren Kinggeorge as excused and the word "Legislature" should be "legislator". The motion to approve the minutes passed as corrected. Chair Reports: President Larry began the meeting by welcoming Doug Hedger back from his tour of duty in Iraq. Doug thanked us for our support and noted he has 11 days of duty left. President Larry told us of the meeting with the four U of W marketing students and that they will present a plan on August 1 st. Patricia said she was hopeful for some great ideas. Treasury & Committee Reports: Treasurer Doug Hedger told us admissions were down for the year but donations are up on free Wednesdays. Other earned income is down due to lower than anticipated photo reproductions and facility rentals. The profit for the month ending June 30th was $674 with a year to date profit of $429. Over all we are close to being on budget. He asked Board Members to remember to suggest to people what a great meeting space we have. Olson Farm: JB Rupert reported on the meeting with Mayor Pete. He indicated that the Mayor and the City are in tune with the plan for funding. We are definitely on the City's radar. The Finance department is in the budget process and is aware of our management plan and understands what we need. There was talk of the new golf course and the farm helping to promote each other. Possibly cabins near the golf course for corporate retreats and such. . State Grant Request: Holly said that we should hear what the status of our request is within the next month. It should give us a good idea of where we stand. Capital Campaign: President Larry noted that the city is committed to operational funds when the farm opens. There would need to be a committee of 7 board members and community members who would work out the details of the campaign and do the "ask" of potential donors. The committee will determine the timeline and meeting schedule. Nancy noted that regular meetings are a must to stay focused on the task. Nancy also noted that if you believe in what you are doing it is amazing what can happen. President Larry called for a vote to table the decision until August, or to vote now on the campaign. The wait until August folks outweighed the vote now folks. President Larry asked that each board member consider their level of commitment to the campaign carefully. The remaining agenda items will be postponed until the next meeting. Gordy noted that there were about 600 people through the Museum on the 4th of July. Jan Cavanaugh presented the Museum with a check from Soroptimist of Auburn for the benefit of the environment at the Olson Farm. Upcoming Events: Hooked on History, (7-12, 7-26, 8-2 & 8-25) Books bring history alive (every Friday 6-16 to 8-25) Workshop, photo transfer on fabric is 7-29.
