HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-16-2005White River Valley Historical Society Board Meeting Minutes February 16, 2005 Board Members Present: Pat Bailey, Jan Cavanaugh, Doug Hedger, Kathy Lewis, Michelle Marshman, Mike McDermott, Ann Mehl, Larry Miller, Gordy Nishimoto, JB Rupert, May Yamada Board Members Excused: Jean Farrington, Mike Gerber, Mike Hamilton, Dan Harris, and Janice Nelson Staff Members Present: Patricia Cosgrove, Kristen Bruhahn, Janet Wells 1. Minutes: President Larry called the meeting to order at 1:35 PM and asked for the approval of the minutes. MOTION CARRIED II. Chair Report: A Free Wednesday sign up sheet was distributed and Board members signed up to send letters requesting support for a Free Wednesday. Committee assignments were also distributed. III. Treasury and Committee Reports: Ann Mehl gave the Treasurer's report indicating that last year was a very good year with a surplus of $5,372.45. Ann presented items that the finance committee proposed using the surplus funds: 1) Hire a consultant to find money and grants to finance the Olson Farm restoration, $2000, 2) Clean & seal the slate at the entry, $800 to $1,000, 3) Finance the Sounder Garage exhibit space, $1500, 4) The new garage space at the museum needs a de-humidifier, $300. A MOTION PASSED to use the money for the above four items. MOTION PASSED to accept the December 31, 2004 year-end financials as well as the January, 2005 financials. Harvest Ball: Mike McDermott announced that the harvest ball will be held at the SeaTac Hilton on October 29, 2005 and the theme will be Blue Mystic. A fortuneteller will be arranged for the evening. IV. Staff Report: Janet Wells brought us up to date on training the museum's 80 volunteers. She uses the Mayor's customer service focus. Patricia visited Olympia a couple of times and requested funding. U.S. Representative Adam Smith has nominated the Museum for a national Community Service award. Award results are due in late summer. Seattle Live visited the Dressing Up exhibit and our number of visitors increased due to their visit. The Masterpiece Basket exhibit with 60 baskets in excess value of $250000 is up next, necessitating an insurance rider.
