Board Meeting Minutes
MAY 18, 2005
Board Members Present: Pat Bailey, Jan Cavanaugh, Mike Hamilton, Dan Harris, Doug
Hedger, Kathy Lewis, Michelle Marshman, Mike McDermott, Ann Mehl, Larry Miller, Janice
Nelson, Gordy Nishimoto, Warren Kinggeorge
Board Members Excused: Mike Gerber, Mae Yamada
Board Members Absent: Jean Farrington, JB Rupert
Staff Members Present: Patricia Cosgrove, Kristen Bruhahn
Call to Order and Approval of Minutes:
President Larry called the meeting to order at 1:35 PM and asked for the approval of the
minutes. Motion Carried.
Chair Report: Free Wednesdays are booked through July. Auburn Family Medical Center
and the Drs. Gehrett are the latest contributors. More are needed.
Treasury and Committee Reports:
Ann Mehl gave the Treasurers report indicating a Balance of $1855 for the month of April and
year to date balance of $2890. The Operating cash balance as of 4-30-05 is $27461.74.
Building Maintenance Reserve $5872.45, Restricted Account $20190.93, Investment
Accounts $24847.00 and $23836.80 respectively and the Gift Shop Inventory $11394.86.
Motion to accept the Treasurers Report Carried.
Harvest Ball:
Mike McDermott told us it is time to work on sponsorships and that Colombia Bank is a Table
Sponsor. Ticked sales will begin in August. All is set with the Hotel and Band.
Public Relations Committee:
Larry Miller reported that signage directing people to the Museum would be up in the next
couple of months at strategic places. They will be large brown signs. He has been working
with our Traffic engineers on this project and with WASDOT to get signage on Highway 18.
Staff Report:
Patricia gave us an update on the Calvert family request. After speaking with Melissa Calvert
it was suggested the items would be deaccessed to the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe to add to
their Nesika dance regalia collection. It was moved and seconded that that action be taken.
Motion Carried. Warren King George indicated that a ceremony upon the return of the items
was appropriate.
The Olson Farm stream restoration project will be funded. With $13000.
coming to the Museum and $80000. to the City of Auburn. The Removal of the Cottonwood
tress and blackberries will take place and improvement of the Salmon habitat by restoring the
stream. The Driveway will be re-aligned to original. We talked about how best to remove the
blackberries and decided to look into the use of a goat herd. The publicity will be great and
the cost will be less that to remove by machine. In the second phase of restoration the Corps
of Engineers will complete the in-stream restoration and replace the culvert under the street.
