Board Meeting Minutes
July 20, 2005

Call to Order and Approval of Minutes:
President Larry Miller called the meeting to order at 1:35 P and asked for the approval of the
minutes. Motion Carried. President Larry introduced Hilary Pittenger, Summer Education Intern
from GRCC.
Chair Report: Security Task Force Recommendations: Larry, Patricia, Jean and Mike Hamilton
met to discuss the security of the outside equipment area. They decided to proceed getting
signage indicating the area is monitored, to increase the lighting in the area and to put barbed wire
on top of the wall to ward off future break-ins.
Street Sign Update: Larry reported that the design for the signage would list all city facilities in the
area, but the Museum would be the first listed. They will be sizable and include the museum logo.
Twelve signs will be placed. Still working with the DOT to get signage at Hwy 18.
Treasury and Committee Reports: Ann Mehl reported there is a net income of $6,106 as of June
30th. She noted the Annual Fund Drive is not going as well as hoped, but that membership is up.
She also reported that a manual inventory sales reduction system would be put in place, tracking
gift shop inventory. This will be in place over the next 2 years. Motion to accept the Treasurers
report passed.
Harvest Ball: JB Rupert said money is trickling in and that we need to make contacts with
potential sponsors. Also, individual ticket sales will begin soon.
Olson Farm Update: Patricia passed photos of the goats devouring the blackberry vines. We will
still have to remove the root systems of the vines. She announced a $13,000.00 grant from King
County to replace the Farm driveway and do the drainage under the drive. This fall the creek will
be cleared of invasive species and replaced with native species. If all goes as planned the Corps
of Engineers will do the in-stream restoration work, replace the culvert and build the bridge in 2007.
Our $99,000 State grant will be used to replace the farmhouse foundations, increase security, and
deal with powder post beetles. A piece of the north meadow is owned by King County and Patricia
will work to have the County gift it to the City. She noted that we have to get the farm renovated
enough to do limited group tours. That would open up many other grants.
Possible Capital Campaign: By conducting a capital campaign we could push to raise the 1.5
million dollars needed to fully restore the farm, making it available for public use. An initial City
operating expense budget of $10,000 has been requested for 2006.
Staff Report: Curator for Education interviews will be taking place. Thirty applicants have been
culled to six strong candidates. Four will be interviewed.
Upcoming Events: Hooked on History, 7/27, 8/3 & 8/10 Model Train Show, 9/10&11
