HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-17-2005White River Valley Historical Society Board Meeting Minutes August 17, 2005 Board Members Present: Pat Bailey, Jan Cavanaugh, Mike Hamilton, Doug Hedger, Kathy Lewis, Michelle Marshman, Mike McDermott, Ann Mehl, Larry Miller, Janice Nelson, Gordy Nishimoto, Warren Kinggeorge Board Members Excused: Mae Yamada, Jean Farrington Board Members Absent: Dan Harris, JB Rupert Staff Members Present: Kristen Bruhahn, Tara McCauley, Hilary Pittenger Call to Order and Approval of Minutes: President Larry Miller called the meeting to order at 1:35 PM and asked for the approval of the minutes. Motion Carried. President Larry introduced Tara McCauley our new Curator of Education to the board. He gave us a briefing of her background and education. Chair Report: Security and Signage Updates: the razor wire is up and cost $630.83 as well as 2 signs (Area Under Surveillance) at a cost of $213.25. Road signage is now being made by the King County shop and should be installed in a few weeks. Still working with the DOT on Hwy 18 signage. Treasury and Committee Reports: Ann Mehl gave the July report. There is a net income of $5012 for July with a year to date income of $1114. Motion to accept the Treasurers report passed. Harvest Ball: Board members are asked to be Table Captains. We need to finalize the sponsorships and the regular tickets sales will be available the end of this month. Olson Farm Update: Mike Hamilton reported that the goats are done as of August 5th. Now we need to get rid of the blackberry roots. The Earth Corps will cover the meadow with black plastic for 18 months, cooking the roots, and then the area will be tilled and planted with historically appropriate meadow grass seed. The Stream Restoration will begin this Sept. The driveways will be restored and the house foundation rebuilt in October 2005. Staff Report: A motion was moved and passed that we look into the feasibility of doing a Capital Campaign to support the restoration of the Farm. Larry asked for a steering committee of 4 to 5 people to do the study with a commitment of 2 + years and a once a month meeting. It was suggested that we visit the Hovander Farm in Ferndale and the Pomeroy farm in Battleground. It was also suggested that we invite the architect to give us a presentation of what needs to be done. Those of us not on the Board in 1999 were given a copy of the Master Plan report to read.
