Volunteer of the Month A. Director Cosgrove introduced Iris Marshall as our volunteer of the month. Iris works primarily with Tina as an artifact cataloger. She is a retired school counselor who is now once again a student herself. She is studying museum management. Her abilities were recently recognized when she was accepted to be a docent for the Seattle Art Museum. She said she has greatly enjoyed working with the WRVM museum staff. She believes the key to the success of the volunteers at the WRVM is the museum's culture of excellence. She defines that as a high caliber of staff and training, along with a sense of trust in the volunteers which allows them to feel empowered. She believes it is all part of what keeps them involved, it's what works for her. 111. Treasury and Committee Reports A. Earl Averill moved, and Daryl Thompson seconded, that the treasurer's report be approved as presented. MOTION CARRIED It was reported that the Finance Committee met to go over the quarterly report. They found all the records to be in tip top order. At that time the staff also presented their wish list to the committee-but it was decided that it would be put on hold till after the construction is done. For the second year in a row we received the most money available ($4, 999) of a Sustained Support Grant. The money from this grant comes from the King County Hotel Motel Tax Fund. B. Construction Committee Chair Mike Hamilton was not able to attend the meeting, but according to our latest construction recap report we are about 85% complete on all our projects for the remodel. It is the time for holding the contractors to their due dates. It is getting a bit hairy, but work is getting done for the opening on 8/8. C. PR Committee Chair Debbie Maguire reported that plans for the reopening party on Aug 3rd are coming along well. She shared some of the committee's plans so far. In other PR news, copies of the posters for promoting the "Rolling Thunder" Exhibit, which will run 8/8-10/14, are ready to be posted around town. If board members can do so, please do as much as possible. Copies can be obtained from Director Cosgrove at the museum. It was suggested that we invite the media down for a visit and ask them to bring their TV cameras. It was also suggested that we publicize the exhibit with the folks who bring their old time cars to Big Daddys and possibly open Friday night for them to see the motorcycles. D. Committee member Bill Peloza presented for the Museum Services Agreement Review Committee the results of their work. He went over page by page the rough draft of the document highlighting the changes they made. Board members are encouraged to give their comments in writing as soon as possible, as we plan to vote on this at the August board meeting so it can be presented in Sept. to the mayor and others. IV. Chair Report A. President Stevens reported that the Five-Year Plan committee met and will have their document ready to be presented in September with the updated service agreement and bylaws. V. Staff Report A. Artifact Relocation is complete and in good order thanks to Tina's amazing organizational skills. In Sept. they will complete the move by retrieving the rest of the items from GSA. It was also reported that our old Threshing Machine has found a good home with the Marysville Historical Society. They have placed it on a farm in the area and plan to restore it. Thanks go to good of Mike Hamilton for getting it up there. What would we do without him?! Sure don't want to know! B. The 4th of July celebration this year in the park drew 700 people to the museum--many of them for the very first time. That it is a record! We also collected $92 in donations and made $207 in the gift shop. C. The Annual Volunteer Picnic on July 14th was also a success. 64 people attended the Hawaiian Luau picnic. Bill Peloza noted that it was nice to see so many new, younger volunteers becoming involved with the museum. D. The Kids Classes and Programs held at the museum in conjunction with the Parks & Rec Departments' Wacky Wednesdays are proving to be highly successful. 35 kids attended the recent mystery class and had a great time! This is a great idea and an even better partnership. IV. New Business A. Marissa was congratulated on the arrival of her much anticipated beautiful new grand daughter. B. Dick Deal joined us to announce some upcoming dates regarding the new Senior Center. Such as: the road will be open out front 8/17; 9/7 the Senior Center will open; 9/10 the Senior Center will hold its Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 10 am; 9/16 the public will be invited to an grand opening event.
