Board Members Excused: Ear1 Hagen Board Members Not Excused~ Ray Jerry , Staff Present: Patricia Cosgrove, Kazen Haas, Kristen BruhaFm 1. Call to Order and Approval. of Minutes - A. Yresident Armstrong ca(led the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. and asked for tlie approval of the minutcs. Bud Kuhlman moved, and Haris Torklep seconded, (hat the minu[es be approved as presenled MOTION CARRIED_ II. Chair Report A. Diiector Cosgrove told us abouf the Sculpture Committee that has beeu formed with Charles Natsiiliara, ' Raymond Jerry, and Haps Torklep as members. We will be installing a new sculptor in the museum soon. It will be ofBig 7ohn (a tribal membcr) and<Arthur Ballard, and will be set up by the canoe. The Muckleshoot Tribe has ' generously donated $22,000 to make this happea III. Treasury.and Committee Report . „ A. Treasurer Osthus went over her treasurers report. She told us that at the Finance Committee mtg. it was announced that we would not receive any royalties from the Shirakawa Book in 2002, but would begin to see royalties in 2003. Sales are espected to be $8,886, of which $3,117 will be in royalties from books sold Uuough the University of-Wastqngton Press : This is based on 1,000 books and a 40% pro£t rate. There are 2,000 books.pruited right now. If books aze purchased from the museum we keep ALL the profit. 5he also infomied us that we have received a Second $4,999 operating grant, and that we should receive the saine amount next year fro King County. We are_well on our.way towards our.goal of $13,000 in operating grants this ycar. The finance committee is also looking at boosting our-membership numbers to increase revenue. And they wilLbe adding a line item to the budget for building maintenance. Tliey want that more spelled out to insure it gets donc wcll. B. PR Cliair Nicole Karwhite shared thc results of her branding meeting. Shc handed out a tally sheeYof the comments made at the mtg. Shc will be.using her PR cotnmittee to come up tvith some tag lincs regarding the museum using the data collected! They will combine that wiUr the information they gathered by doing a market place survey of other museums to help genemte ideas. C. Harvest Ball Co-Chair LoriAnnc reported for her and Michacl that thcy now have fivc corporate tablc sponsors. They are still working jon a naming sponsor Lori also asked for somcone to go with her to sce Ron Crocket.at Einerald Downs to sec about ED becoming a sponsor (in kind?). Mike Stevens voluntecred to go with her. Co-Chair Michael also aske'I that people usc the I'etters in the packet they handed out and thlt we send it to two of our friends or associates. All.they are asking for is that we send it to dvo people. Plcase take the letter provided, and add your own letterhead to personalize, and send it out now--along with the piece wi[h sponsorsllip ' info-the ball.is coming quick. D;on't forget they are still lookiiig for raftle itcros as well. D. Coiporate Sponsorship Chair Dick Pickett repoded;the current standing of his committee's efforts. So far they have received for Wedne;s,day's Hooked on History Events $1,300 $om dic Aubum Arts Commission; for. I%ree Wednesdnys they have received $3,700 out of the $4;000 desired. They still ltave $2-3K out thcre in asks; for the Harvest $all theyhave a few requests out thei'e for $650 corporate tables-thcy want to pursue as many of those as they can before they go after the $500 oncs. Dick also fianded out a list of sponsors for us to look over and see if we miglit know any of them:that we can.contact and put iu a good word for regarding the museum. ~r... . _ . _ , ` y,. . ,t= V. Staff ReportA..Curator of Education, Kazen Haas, shared with us her latest attendance figures. Shc announced that Uiey had 55 tours, with 1,544 kids. and 118 adults (not coun6ng parents/chaperones), through the museum this last year!!! That's amazing. Needless to say she is looking for people to train to be tour guides. Her current guides need a break! Please let her lrnow if you are interested, or know someone who may bc interested doing this. She also reported that the clicker stopped clicking on the 4`h of July at 748 visitors to the museum that day (they estimate 800 people visited). Wow! That's lots oF word of mouth working forus. She also rcported that 16 kids and even a few adults joined her this moming for the first oF thc Hooked on Hisrory Wednesday. She can use morc volunteers to help staff these events. She passed around a sign in sheet; please let her know if you cau sharc anhour of your time £or the museum and kids in the month of August.' B. Director Cosgrov;e passed out a copy of the Exliibit Rental Agrecment. We looked it over and ta(ked about what institutions would be willing to pay £or diffarent exhibits, and decided on prices different prices for different e7chibits. C. The Olson Faan •update was given by Director Cosgrove. She informed us that the City' attomey has rewritten our proposal, and that we should have a copy soon to review, and finalize. V. New Business A. Mazk your calendazs now for the Shirakawa Book Signing on July 28"' at 2:00-4:00 pm. It is the.same weekend as the Bon Odori Festival in North Aubum and hopefully that should draw some extra family membcrs to the signing, Cosgrove passed a copy of the gorgeous, welldone book azound the mtg. Copies are available now in the gift shop for purchase. B. Also on the agenda is the Inlerurban Revisrted Opcning on July 30'h £rom 5:00-7:00 pm. Board ' members ue always encouraged tq attend thcse events. C. Debbie reported that she and Mae are now representing WRVM at AKCHO mtgs. These are monthly meetings of the niembers of the Association of King County Historical Organizations. At their first mtg in June, they got an inferesUng presentarion about:how the KC`Historical Preservation Board works. They had a great qme at the mtg and invited the AKCHO to hold at mtg in Aubum sometime soon. They.will keep you posted if diat happens: Debbie passed around a folder with hand-outs/info she picked up that day. She will keep adding to the . folder as the year progresses. D. Debbie also reminded',us that it was Good Ol Days time again and she has WRVM Fans to pass out. Anyone interested in doing so citlier day of thc festival, please,let her know.
