It also sounds like she did a great job Tepresenting her family and our museum. She also shared the pieture-board she puttogether of her family members that, she took to.the event. She has asked her family mem6ers to help her put together an . exhibit for WRVM. She said she has a new appreciation for how much work it is to put something like this together, but she is excited to be learuing all she is about her family and to see it completed. B. Vice Chair' Charlas Natsuhara told us that the newly appointed nominating committee will begin its work to find officers forthe coming yeaz. Committee members include Nicole Kanvhite, LoriAnne Claudon, Earl Hagen,.and Gharles. It was also menrioned that through the diligence of Bill Peloza and Pahicia,,we will soon have a new representative from the Boeing Company. MOTION CARRIED B: Sculpture Committee Chair Charles NatsuUara updated us on the sculpture progress. While figuring put the contract; some of the original prices were upped a bit, knocking the price up by $4,500. It will now be $44, 500 to get it all done and delivered. We_have $22K on.hand and right now need $23K to begin the.process: Direetor Cosgrove recommended that we "borrow" the last $ 1,000 from ourselves, and pay it back when the rest of the fund raising is complete. By March 31, 2004 we will need the'rest of the funds to complete the project. It stipulates in the contract, that.if we don't have the funds by then; we.can renegotiate, extend, or cancel our contract. The issue of borrowing the money from ourselves to pay for the whole deal now was raised. Cosgrove suggested that when the . model is done, and ready to be sfiowed off, that we should have no problem getting the tribal council to fund the rest of the projcct from their gaming table accounts, especially sccing as they are already excited about and support the project. Charles also informed us that the pieces will noiv;be placed in the front lobby area of the museum, where it will be easily accessible;for all to enjoy, as opposed to being placed im the canoe area and, out of reach. Bill Peloza moved; and LoriAnne Claudon, seconded; that we accept the contract as writtea MOTION CARRIED " C: Harvest Ball Co-Chairs Michael & LoriAnne, gave us a quick update on the Ball and its progress. So far we have seven corporate tables 'sold, and 18 table captains signed up to sell seats and host tables for the night. If you have anyone who: may make.a good table captain, please send Bdl their names. Also, they still need auction items. They also ask that you send out your letters (and ;add your own letterbead) to those who may want to attend fhe ball. They can use any, and all help with pubticity please help, them spread the word-the ball is coming soon! ~ . . D. Olson Farm Committee member Mike Stevens gave us an update on the project. He said the plan looks good, that there will be a work party Monday Sept.,23rd at 9:30 am at the fazm (bring your own gloves and crow bar), and that folks will be going on some site tours of other places that are operating similaz projects. They will be ! studying how they are managed; run, financed, etc. They will go to a variety of places azound the State to gather as much information as possible. And he said he has a fellow Rotarian, J.B. RupeR of Rupert Engineering who will review the roof on the weaving shed for structural needs. -IV. Staff Report A. Cosgrove talked to us about the city budget for next year and how the museum fits into it. The cityhas asked that there be no additions or stafF changes if possible. Unfortuuately there is not money io their budget this year to make Karen Haas full Ume-yek But there will be a 2.9 % COLA raise for all employees, and no layoffs. So that is good news. The Historical Society's budget will be next to 6e worked on. B. Curator of Education Katen Haas presented a nice written report about the education program for the 7ast, few years. She was able to put together some numbers for the last four years. We have been growing and growing in visitors and offerings. It's amazing. She also.shared the latest program that is coming up-"Stories of the Muckleshoot People". She has been a busy bee with lots more good stuff up her sleeve! . ' C.' Volunteer Coordinaton Janet Wells joined us to talk about her programs as well. She shared that she . cunenUv has 74 volunteers in service, with 5 more in training. She taught us thaY it takes a lot of people to keep the musewn running; For example, Tina uses 10 vols., Patricia 8, Kristen 1, and Kazen will need 10 new tour guides. _ Volunteers put in 518 hours last month, not counting board members' tune. She has developed some nice forms to keep hack of the volunteer time given the museum aad will add board members to.her list. She also told us that LONG time volunteer Bil! Andrews will be leaving the museum and vacating his position as volunteer scheduler. They are working to fill his shoes,'as ttiat is an important job. Hc will be missed. V. New Business ' A. Director Cosgrove invited us to the upcoming events. One of those events is the railroad lecture that happens 34 times a year. These attract so many people (some even coming from as far away as Wenatcheel) that they'have to be held at the Sr. Center. The next one is Oct 4t`. Also is the kids' program, "Stories of the Muckleshoot People" on Oct 5~', and of course, the Harvest Ball on Oct 25~`. B. The importance of having a member of the Muckleshoot Tribe as a board member was discussed. We value their involvement and participation and want to make it work that a representative from the tribe is able to attend the board meetings on a:regular basis. It was mentioncdithat it had bcen discussed providing them with an ' open seat,,allowing them to send whoever was available to the meetings. Sounds'like that may.work best for thcm in order to keep them on board and the connection going strong. - ' VI.
