HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-08-2000 ^ White River Valley Historical Society _ Board and Annual Meeting Minutes January 8, 2000, 1:30 to 2:30 White River Valley Museum Board Members Present: Marissa Armstrong, A1 B'Hymer, Libby Dykstra, Earl Hagen; Mike Hamilton, Bud"Kuhlman, Debbie Maguire, 7ohn Meneghini, Bill Peloza, Mike Stevens, Daryl Thompson; Hans Tork]ep, Mae Yamada Board Members Excused: Earl Averill, Maxine Moergeli, Chades Natsuhara, Walter Pacheco, Doris Ramstead Staff Present: Tina Brewster-Wray, Patricia Cosgrove A combination Board and Historical Society Annual Meeting was held in which members of tlie public' joined historical society members,.board and officers for a lecture and the election of new board members and officers. A1 together 30 persons attended. Patricia Cosgrove presented a. . petition to change the WRVHS bylaws. The proposed change is as follows, and will be voted on and enacted at the next annual meeting. Call to Order and Approval of Minutes Prestdent Hamilton called the meeting to order and asked that the minutes be approved as , sent. APPROVED II. . ChaicReport A. President Hamilton reported thaf the yeu 1999 was a successful year spent focusing on building the museum's educational programs. With the work of Barb Williams, the Curator of Education; new children's.classes are now routinely offered during school breaks and summer vacation, the fieldtrip program has been mazketed directly to teachers by visiting each Auburn : elementary school,.and a new in class lesson has been developed to be piloted in the spring of 2000. These, programs build on the substantial work of 1998, when the entire museum was remodeled and new e3chibits.installed. The Historical Society ended the year with a budgetary surplus. Patricia Cosgrove presented outgoing President Mike Hamilton witli a framed image of ' the museum during its grand opening - something he can take great pride in. His two year term as president has been one ofthe most eventful in;our history. The,friends and associates gathered to thank and applaud Mike for his dedicated work as president and chair of the construction committee. Mike Hamilton introduced the slate of board members whose terms will expire 12/2002: Earl Averill, Earl Hagen, Bud Kuhlman, Debbie Maguire, Maxine Moergeli, and Hans Torklep. Officers slated for the year 2000: President Bud Kuhlman, Vice President Mike Stevens, Treasurer Ken.Refvem, Secretary Ead Hagen. No other nominations were suggested from the floor. Mel Sinex recommended a unanimous acceptance of this slate, seconded by AI B'Hymer. MOTION ACCEPTED < III. Program _ Patricia Cosgrove introduced Clark McAbee and his presentation on logging in the White ` River Valley. - Clark's detailed study and intimate family,knowledge of this historic industry made his hour-long presentation well attended and interesting..
