Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chairman Len Elliott. Those Board members attending, in addition to Mr. Elliott, were Arnie Galli, Bryce Landrud, and Lisa Harmon. Board members absent were Lonnie Sundal and Karen Wright. Marion Nancarrow resigned at the end of her term in December. Staff inembers in attendance were Director Daryl Faber, Parks Maintenance Manager Mike Miller, Horticulturalist Kirk Hadley, and Department Secretary Ann Fuqua. Mr. Faber explained that Bob Wuotila would no longer be the stafF liaison for the Board; he was one of those laid off on December 30`h. The Department lost three staff inembers. He said that Mike Miller will be working with the Board this year. II. Minutes The minutes of the November meeting were accepted as written; there was no quorum at the meeting in December. III. Correspondence/Public Input IV. Old Business A. Report on Significant Tree Nomination The trees on West Main chosen as a significant tree (actually two significant trees) were recognized at a December Council meeting. Mayor Lewis made the presentation and read the proclamation, and owner Mrs. Dollinger was there as well as Mr. Elliott and Mr. Landrud. V. New Business A. 2010 Work Plan The items on the 09 work plan were discussed, and changes discussed for the coming year. The new plan will be present at the February meeting. Most things will remain similar, but it is planned that the Board will work toward having more tree-related articles or information available to the public through newspaper publications and/or information on the web-site. AUBURN * MORE THAN YOU IMAGWLD B. Installation of Trees at Second and K Streets Mr. Miller explained that the trees are available for the Second and K Streets plantings. Planting is planned for some time near the first of February. It was suggested that we solicit some scout participation; and the Board members asked that they be notified so those who were available could attend. VI. Board Recommendations/Input Mr. Landrud explained that he is the President this year of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture (PNW-ISA). This organization is internationally recognized for promoting certified arborists and for providing good information to people related to tree care. He also said that his position is provided with a number of grant opportunities and that he will share this information with the Board. VII. Department Report Mr. Hadley reported that we had some pruning going on around town, including Dykstra Park and some removals at Jornada. They are working on hazardous trees and winter clean-up. VIII. Adjournment There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:45 pm.
