The Mayor asked that everyone star_d while Rev. Trent said a
prayer.
Regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Auburn,
held at $:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers at the City Hall.
The meet-ing.was called to order by Mayor Clark.
Councilm-en present: Hitchcock, Kuehn, Raven and Petersen. -
Councilmen absent: Rupert, Stalder & Cornwell.
Minutes of the previous meeting held June 4th, 1957 were
approved as corrected.
CALL FOR BIDS
The City C]erk reported that according to law the call for
bids for L.I.D. 130 has to be published twice and so bid3 will
have to be opened July 2nd for curb & gutter, sidewalk and water
mains.
LICENSE COMMITTEE REPORT
Councilman Hitchcock reported for the License Committee sayi
that the Committee doesn't want to take any action on the request
of Miss O'Grady's to give her taxi zone at 232 East Main 3t. to
Roy's taxi.

MOTION CARRIED
URBAN HOUSING RENEWAL
Councilman Hitchcock repotted for the Special Committee on
the Urban Housing Renewal saying the Cnmmittee had met with Mr.
James of the Federal Housing & Home FinanGing Agency.
This Cor.imittee felt that the city should try to qualify
under Section 221 which is financing for housing removed by
Government Action and where the State Highway went through.
It was the Committee's recommendation that the City Council
allow a Committee to proceed on a workable program.
The Mayor said he would appoint a Committee later.
WATER COMMITTEE
Councilman Kuehn presented a letter of request from Armstrong
onstruction Co. for a4" main and hydrants on 329th St.
It was the recommendation of the Water Committee that the
equest of Mr. Sargent for a water line east of the
eisserman plat be approved; the request of Dick Armstrong be
ranted for a 6" water line; and that 50¢ per month be added to
he water bills on these two lines for fire protection.
It was moved by Kuehn and 2nd by Petersen that the recommendat or

CITY PLANNERS
Councilman Kuehn reported for the Committee that met with
he Ward Associates about City Planning saying they had met
nd the Ward group wotild like to meet with the City Council on
uly 2nd, 1957•

Councilman R.aven reported tYat the Street Lights are up and
;he Light Committee would like the official dedication date to
)e June 28th.

NIr, Burgess came before tiie Council for Mr. Odggard requesti

There was also a petition submittad.
This matter was referred to the Planning Gommission.
The City Glerk asked Mr. Burgess to submit a letter as
soon as possible.

PETITIOiv'
A petition was received from the protaerty owners on Pike
St. S.E. protesting the condition of the Dalic~dnas property.
It was moved by Hitchcock and 2r.d by Raven that legal action
be taken to ha ve t,his property cleanea up. MCTION CARRIED
This matter was referrer: to the Ci.ty Attorney and Engineer
to take the necessary action.
AL'BliRN DAYS INC. REQL'EST
A letter was received from Auburn Days, Inc. requesting the
u se of East Main St. from M 3t. through R St. from 3 to 5 P.M.
on Auburn Day.
This was referred to the Police Chief and Street Committee
for study with power to act.
PLAT
The City Glerk submitted the plat of Wadkins lst Addn.
This was referred to the Planning Commission.
MUATTHLY REPGPT
The Street Supt. submitted his mont.hly report.
This report was ordered placed on file.
LOCGMOTIVE
The City Clerk submitted several letters about the city
getting the locomotive from the NP Railway Co.
FIRE DEPT. REQUEST
A letter was received from the Fi.re Chief asking the Council
to consider the C St. S.E. propertS* as a possible location for a
new Fire Station.
Ed Dray said he thought this property was an ideal location
for a fire and police station.}
Councilman Kuehn asked the City Attorney to briefly explain
the Attorney Generals opinion on the City leasing or selling
this property.
The Attorney said the Attorney Generals opinion was that
t he city could sell this property if it would benefit the
city.
Mr. Gaines of the Elks Club asked the architect, Uon Allison
to explain the Elks proposal for this property.
Don Allison had a drawirig in which he showed the proposal
the Elks had.
John Fourneir said the Chamber of Commerce will endorce
the Elks proposal and to take advantage of obtaining the locomotiv ,
Ed Dray said he felt the city shouldn't sell or give away
pr.operty that is as valuable as this property is. He felt the
locomotive could be put on Park Avenue.
Fire Chief Calkins said he is unable to tell how much
property is needed at this time for a fire station.
Don Taylor said there is a state law prohibitsng drinking
in a park.
Mr. Aaby of the Park Board siid, he felt the city should try
to get the locomotive but they should delay action in selling
or giving away this property.
NTr. Mulkey asked if the Elks dontt keep this property in good
condition can the city get it back.
Councilman Hitchcock said the city has a recapture clause
in the deed.
The Mayor said he has never seen a letter from the NP
giving the city a locomotive.

It was moved by Raven and 2r:ci by Hitchcoek that the city
place the locomotive in the NTN corr;er of the C St. property.
