Regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Auburn, held at 8:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers at the City Hall. The meeting was calied to order by Mayor Denise. Councilmen present: Aaby, Petersen, Kammeyer, Stalder, Fitzsimmons, Towner and Prescott. Councilmen absent: None Minutes of the previous meeting heid April 5, 1960 were approved as mailed. None None No report. No report. No report It was moved by Stalder and 2nd by Petersen that this be turned over to the City Attorney to see what can be done to collect this money. MOTION CARRIED PUBLIC HEARING BIDS COMMITTEE REPORTS PURCNASING COMMITTEE FIRE COMMITTEE LICENSE COMMITI'EE STREET COMMITTEE Councilman Staider stated that the Auburn Transit System has gone out of business and that no money has been paid for the bus stand. Councilman Staider also reported about the Telephone Co. rec,uest for parking spaces in front of their new office. The Street Committee fcels this should be denied because if one company is granted parking spaces, everyone in town will want spaces. It was moved by Staider and 2nd by Towner that the request for parking spaces from the Telephone Co. be denied.MOTION CARRI Councilman Stalder presented a letter from the Parking Association which was requested to be read. (t was moved by Towner and 2nd by Aaby that this be referred to the Finance Committee and City Attorney, be in power to enter into an agreement with the Parking Association and report back at the next regular council meeting, this is to also include the lots owned by the West Auburn Boosters. MOTION CARRIED WATER COMMITTEE Councilman Kammeyer reported that the Jeff property has been under condemnation proceedings for the West hill chlorination plant. An offer of $500.00 was made but the representative for the Jeff property would have to discuss this offer with the other parties involved. When this agreement is settled the condem= nation proceedings will be closed. Councilman Kammeyer stated that Mr. Hedman"s request for an L.I.D. be granted. lt was moved by Kammeyer and 2nd by Petersen that the City Attorney be instructed to draw up the necessary petition for an L.I.D. MOTION CARRIED No report LiGHT COMMITTEE ANNEXATlON The City Attorney read the notice for annexation of the West Auburn area. The Public Hearing will be held May 3, 1960 at 8:00 P.M. REPORT ' They have cleaned the West Hil( reservoir, District #80 'reservoir and the East hill reservoir. The pressure shouid be ' back on Wednesday, 4-20-60. ~ STREET SUPT. REPOiRT ; No report No report ENGINEER REPORT OLD BUSINESS Councilman Stalder requested information as to what the Committee appointed by the Mayor to took into the Amusement Tax, has found. Councilman Karnmeyer stated the Committee has requested information from the City C1erk but as yet have not received any. No 8ction can be taken until this information is secured. NEW BUSINESS The City Attorney requested authority from the Counci) to record two deeds, one from Mr. & N1rs. Nelson and one from Mr. & Mrs. Hedman. These deeds are for a 60' right of way. It was moved by Stalder and 2nd by Kammeyer that the City Attorney be granted the authority to record these two deeds. MOTION CARRIED The City Attorney aEso requested authority to record the deed from King County School District $4081 for the exchange of property. It was moved 'oy Towner and 2nd 'oy Kammeyer that the City Attorney ke granted this authority to record this deed,MOTIOiJ CARRI COPRESPUNDENCE PACIFIC TELEPHONE CG. Councilman Kammeyer read a fetter from the Pacific Telephone Co. requesting permission to {ay underground conduit within the City of Auburn. It was moved by Aaby and 2nd by Fitzsimmons that this request be granted. MOTION CARRIED B. E. QUALEY REQUEST ED Counciiman Kamrneyer read a letter from Mr. B. E. Qualey, reauestinq a petition for an Local lmprovement District oe formed PAGE 2325 AUBURN, WASHINGTON TUESDAY APRIL 19, 1960 FOR Ilth St. N.E. between K& M Streets N.E. Improvements to consist of Blacktopping and curb & gutter. This lettcr was referred to the Finance Committee. GO CART PROTEST Councilman Kammeyer read a Ietter of protest from property owners living near the Hilfside Lanes Bowling Alley. They protest the operation of a Go Cart race track across the street from the bowling alley. Councilman Towner stated that he has talked with Mr. Wadkins regardinq this race track,and Mr. Wadkins wil) be putting up a fence around this area for the purpose of safety. They fee) this should be tabled until the race track is completely finished. AUBURN TRANSIT LINES Councilman Kammeyer read a fetter from Mr. Wm. H. Henline, stating that the bus Co. is going out of business and therefore are giving up the bus zone on East Main Street. ThiS letter was ordered filed. JOHN D. WADKINS Councilman Kammeyer read a(etter from Mr. Wadkins requesting something be done to prevent people from parking their cars along the highway going up the hill on State Nighway #5. He feels that "NO PARKING AT ANY TIME" signs should be placed in this area. Mr. Wadkins also requested for a 25 mph signs in front of the bowling atley. This letter was referred to the Street Committee. PLANNING COMMfSS10N Councilman Kammeyer read a(etter from the Auburn Planning commission recommending the denial of the Auburn Moose Lodge #1756 petition for rezoning. It was moved oy Fitasimmons and 2nd by Aaby that the Council accept the recommendation of the Planning Commission. MOTION CARRlEO AUDIENCE RUBIN BANASKI Mr. Banaski requested permission to setl fire crackers inside the City of Auburn. Councilman Kammeyer stated the sale of fire crackers is prohibited inside the City. It was moved by Kammayer and 2nd by Fitzsimmons that Mr. Banaski*s reqVast be denied. MOTION CARRIED CLAIMS It was moved by Prescott and 2nd by Fitzsimmons that the following claims against the city, all having previous{y been passed and signed by the Finance Committee, be approved and the City Clerk be authoriied to draw warrants in payment: CURRENT EXPENSE CEMETERY LIBRARY STREET WATER # 6174 to # 6234 # 1915 to # 1922 # 1124 to # #21 16 to # 2125 # 639 to # 856 $ {2,973.04 $ 2,657.74 1,331.75 2,073.81 There being no further business to come before the Council the meeting was adjourned at 8:50 P.M. subject to the call of the Meyor.
