HomeMy WebLinkAboutITEM V-FAuburn Environmental Park Project: Defining a "Green" Aesthetic The following outlines the scope of work and outcomes that Washington State University students from the third year architecture studio under the direction of Professor Gregory Kessler will develop during the spring semester 2010. The Auburn Environmental Park District wishes to attract "Green" businesses through zoning code incentives and encourage sustainable development. The focus of the project will be to provide the city of Auburn with a series of strategies and ideas that can be presented to potential businesses, developers and land owners that focus on the aesthetics of green design. For this project "Green" Aesthetics this will be defined as the ability of architecture to express a language of design that transforms ordinary experiences of business and manufacturing into extraordinary places that have a sensitivity and respect for the natural environment. The overall project is that students will be asked to design a prototypical business park building that can serve as a model for the city of Auburn to present to potential developers, owners and start up businesses. Also included will be strategies for sustainable site development including storm water management. The building will be a hybrid consisting of approximately 20,000 s.f. and will include the following spaces. • Manufacturing space: 3,000s.f. • Employee recreation • Cafe/ Employee eating space • Day Care • Entry/ Reception • Office space/ Meeting/ Conference rooms • Three housing units of approximately 8oo s.f. each Early in February students will travel to Example 3D models Auburn to participate in site visit/ analysis as approx. 2-4 inch base well as meet with city staff and project coordinator Rich Wagner. Upon returning to Pullman students will begin working on the design phase of the project Students will . generate plans, sections elevations and 3D t~~~ models of their proposals. At the conclusion of this phase students will return to Auburn 1 to present their work to City Council and the 1 ' projects will remain in Auburn for public display and viewing. A final document will be pr oduced that will include the proposals.
