Minutes
Tuesday, March 2, 2010
5:30 p.m.
Auburn Senior Activity Center, Rotary Room
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 5:35 pm by Chairman Mike Hassen. Those members present in
addition to Mr. Hassen were Richard Artura, Vicki Gilthvedt, John Webley, and Julie Parascondola.
Department staff members present were Parks, Arts and Recreation Director Daryl Faber and Parks
Secretary Julie Mehl.
II. Minutes
The minutes of the February meeting were approved as distributed.
III. Committee Member Input
A. Daryl Faber received an inquiry whether we run leagues at cost. Mr. Faber informed the Board
that the Parks Department runs adult leagues at cost plus 25% and explained that field prep
fees, lights and salaries of full time employees are all taken into consideration. Mr. Faber added
that children's programs are run at no profit which is standard practice among local cities.
B. Mr. Hassen shared that Daddy Daughter Date Night was a success. Mr. Faber added it sold out
both nights and the Parks Department is considering adding a third night for the event.
IV. Correspondence/Public Input
A. Mr. Hassen relayed that the teen group would be interested in operating theater concessions.
B. Mr. Faber stated The Little Mermaid performance had 16 children sign up yet they sold 160
tickets the first performance and 150 tickets for the second. Mr. Faber hopes to improve stage
props and costumes.
V. Old Business
A. Barrier Free Playground at Les Gove
Mr. Faber stated that he has met with Bob Droll, the architect for the Barrier Free Playground
and he will have final design and grading permits in April. The completion date goal is June 26.

VI. New Business
A. Lea Hill Park
Mr. Faber stated there will be community meetings held in 3 to 6 months regarding the park on
Lea Hill. The community input has been positive about the park. Meetings have been scheduled
with Susan Black & Associates, the Landscape Architect. Currently are working on a design that
students can use but will not be specifically geared towards them. Parking may be off street, to
the north of the park which will accommodate 15 cars and be more cost effective. Mr. Webley
remarked that having off street parking will keep it a'neighborhood' park and stated we are
going forward with public process and scheduling a meeting at a local church.
B. Concessions Agreements
Mr. Faber updated the board on the concessions at Game Farm Park to be run again this year by
the Optimist Club of Auburn. The concessions at Brannan Park and Sunset Park will be run by
Little League of Auburn.
C. Park Board Policy & Procedure Manual
#3310 Tennis court lights will be in operation from 1 Apr - 30 Sept from sundown to 10:30 pm
and 1 Oct to 31 Mar from sundown to 8:30 pm.
#3320 Changed "pool" to "spray park"
#3330 Changed °Pea Patch" to "Community Garden" and changed patch size from 400 sf to 200
sf, service animals are allowed and has disabled access.
D. Ms. Parascondola asked what the policy was on "green" gardening in the Community Garden and
Mr. Faber replied that organic gardening is recommended but not required.
