Agencies like Auburn that practice zero tolerance Page 1 Municipal Services Minutes April 26, 2010 for false alarms will significantly reduce the total number offalse alarms. The concept i s similar to our red light enforcement at 4th and Auburn Way So. As drivers have become aware that there are no warnings (zero tolerance) for running a red light at that intersection, the number of violations have continued to decrease. Agencies like Alexandria VA that allow a warning on the first false alarm show a higher percentage of overall false alarm rates than experienced by Spokane or Aubum that practices zero tolerance. Cities such as Wichita, KS that allow, 2 wamings on false alarms suffer an even greater percentage of false alarm rates. The increase is proportionally higher.for agencies that allow 3 or more warnings. First time false alarms represent about 65% of all false alarms recorded - within a year.
