Background Summary: The pu.rpose of this project is to construct a connection from Tacoma Public Utilities (TPU) 60- - inch Pipeline 5 at the existing tumout to the City's 16-inch transmission main located on the west side of B Sfreef NW. The project includes connecting to the existing 12-inch valve p,rovided by TPU, installation of a pressure reducing valVe (PRV) station, connection to and from a proposed TPU meter vault, and associated improvements for a sump pump, power, telephone and telemetry. Pre-procurement of the PRV station is required to meet the project schedule. The PRV station has been designed by GC Systems, who is the only company in the state with a complete PRV station package; and will be pre-procured by the City through one of GC Systems: local distributors. Advertisement for bids will occur in May or June of 2010, with construction anticipated to occur befinreen June and August of 2010. This.project is a portion of the larger Intertie Infrastructure Project which includes construction of a second intertie on Lea Hill. The Intertie Infrastructure Project has line item funding in the proposed 2011 Water Utility Budget and a budget amendment will be needed to bring a portion of these funds forward into 2010 for this project. Therefore, a budget amendment of $600,000 from the 430 (Water) fund is required this year to fund the project.
