Call To Order, Introductions, Approval of Minutes . President Mike Gerber `President Gerber called the meeting to order and asked for the approval of the minutes. MOTION CARRIED II. Cfiair Report, President Gerber - A. President Gerber reviewed the museum calendar B. Free Wednesday Reguesf UPdafe Happy news! Free Wednesdays are full until the end of the year. Gerry Honeysett, who acquired the most donations, was asked to share his insights on his success and gave us these tips "believe in what you are asking for" and "send a note of`thanks" as a follow-up. C. Museology 101, Volunteer Program Janet Wells Janefi Wells, characterized as,passionate and gifted, in her work as volunteer coordinator by Patricia Cosgrove, introduced two volunteers Julie Towne and Elaine Ruth. Julie holds the highest number of volunteer hours and primarily serves the White River Museum at the Mary blsen Farm. She shared experiences volunteering & spoke to the value of instruction related to sources of food provided to 1st graders, many of whom have not made the connection between nature and nutrition unfil their farm experience,, as well as the introduction of 6th graders to the salmon habitat and on occasion, a coyote! Elaine serves primarily as a greeter, answerer.of felephone and shop keeper welcoming visitors to the WRVM: She has lived in Auburn for 50 years and was encouraged to volunteer by Eunice Ryan. Elaine applauds the staff of the museum, commending their dedication and commitment. Mike Gerber thanked. Janet Wells, and volunteers Julie & Elaine foc #heir presentation and their gifts of self on behalf ofthe museum and requested that thanks also be extended to all volunteers. Board mem. bers are encouraged to introduce ourselves to volunteers if the opportunity avails itself. III. Committees (ftems for Vote') A. Finance Committee* Doug Hedger e 2/2010 Financial Report A 2010 budgef amendment originally presented in March 2010, a new policy regarding salary and benefits for the museum's non-city emPloyees was proughtto the April 2010 board meeting; - recommended for approval - MOTION GARRIED e Monthly & Quarterly Financial Reports cecommended for approval - MOTION CARRIED B. Mary Olson Farm Committee Judi Roland • Invitation to all board members to,join farm tour following meeting was extended by Judi to include a demonstration of the hay fork and trolley • Wallpaper is up in, house. e Discovery of water at:71 feet was a positive outcome of dig (expected required depth was 250 feet). -1- • Underground & electrical bids came in higher than anticipated and will require additional consideration. e Fencing 6id accepted, fence lines are strung out • Caretaker position remains unfilled, employment considerations discussed. • The idea of potential board meeting in June at MOFarm was introduced. • Continued discussion of hosting a"soft° opening housewarming event.in September occurred. (Potentially HoptemberNarvest Fesf. 9/25) C. Collections Committee - report & vote deferred to next month D. Halloween Costume Ball Committee Julie Herren • October 23, 2010 • Committee meeting set for May 10th 3:30, all interested are encouraged to attend. Decisions . on theme, music, ticket prices, 8 sponsorship / fund eaising efforts will be made by those attending committee meeting. • A request was made guiding the committee to focus orr quality, keeping in mind the desire for any brochure or printed ad materials to reflect the charm & dignity of the Museum. E. Community Gonnections Committee - - Planning calendar of community events at which museum presence can occur (such as tractoc with banner). • School District Tours - Expansion of school'tours at Mary Olson Farm to-Kent:Sehool District, the 4th largest_in state with 34 elementary schools and the Muckelshoot Tribal School was discussed. Board mem6ers inquired into the current capacity for tours wh'ich.was determined , to be 60 pupils per tour, 2 tours per day / requiring 4 volunteers & 1 staff person at a minimum. It was decided to establish a committee to discuss in depfh 'and develop plans for supporting & sustaining Mary Olson Farms educational programs considering the industry standards, as well as the other potential uses. - V.
