I.Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 2:05 pm by Parks Maintenance Manager Mike Miller. Those
Board members attending were Karen Wright, Arnie Galli, and Bryce Landrud. There is no
quorum. Also present at the meeting were staff members Parks Maintenance Manager Mike
Miller, Parks Horticulturist Kirk Hadley, and Parks Secretary Julie Mehl.
II.Minutes
The minutes of the May meeting were not approved as there is no quorum.
III.Correspondence/Public Input
A. Karen Wright reports she is having a hard time writing an article on tree care. Bryce
Landrud offers to forward an article on topping to Karen.
IV. Old Business
A.Mike Miller reported he has received no response from the home owner of the
significant tree hopeful. There is a Monkey Puzzle Tree on East Main which belongs
to Mike Harbin and he would be happy to be recognized as a Significant Tree owner.
B. Mike Miller also shared that a legal firm in Seattle will be donating money for 35
trees for Les Gove Park in support of Discovery Playground. They will be planted in
the fall. Mr. Landrud suggested fragrant Daphne which bloom in January or February.
Miller Fabrication will be making stainless steel signs identifying trees,
hopefully in Braille as well as standard lettering. The grand opening for Discovery
Playground is June 25 at 10 am.
C.Demolition has begun this week for the Activity Center. We are trying to save
a Cedar Tree and four Locust trees. Kirk Hadley added the Locust trees can be
removed as they are not healthy.
V. New Business
A. Mike Miller attended the Tree Programs Coordination meeting and learned
there will be a phone number citizens can call to report trees which are not being
cared for properly. This will be enforced by Chuck Joiner and Don Stephens, Code
Enforcement.

B.June 19 we will be planting five trees in the sensory garden area of Discovery
Playground.
