The task force was charged with assisting the Auburn City Council in planning for the continued growth and development of the downtown and other key areas of the City. While the actual mission and scope of the Task Force's efforts was set by the Task Force members, the Mayor and City Council requested that its efforts include the creation of an updated vision for Downtown Auburn and other parts of the City, as appropriate. This vision could address a variety of issues, including but not limited to, potential expansion of the downtown planning area, continued downtown and citywide redevelopment planning strategies and actions, mixes and locations of different types of land uses, business retention and recruitment strategies and potential regulation changes or ideas to support the specific needs and interests of the Downtown and other key parts of the City. Project Status The task force kicked off in January and the group selected a facilitator in February where their work really began. Their first duty was to develop a mission statement which lead to a name change, Urban Core Task Force. Over the past seven months (group has met seven times to date), the Urban Core Task Force has worked on the following: • Urban Core Boundary and Key Connection areas • Discussion of urban core boundary and urban core land use within the boundary Page 1 of 2 A~TBUAN ~k MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED • Development of guiding principles and sub-principles to set the framework for the 2050 vision • Discussion of zoning and density; where density should go within the urban core boundary • Density mapping exercise within the proposed urban core boundary • Open space definitions and discussion; open space planning and vision discussion; mapping exercise to place open space within the proposed urban core boundary Proiect Schedule Staff will provide the remaining project schedule at Monday's Committee meeting.
