CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING
Meeting Minutes of July 13, 2010
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Civil Service Commission was held July 13, 2010, in Resource
Room #2 located on the second floor of Auburn City Hall, 25 West Main Street, Auburn, WA. The
following members were in attendance.
MEMBERS PRESEiVT: Chairman Dick Kammeyer, Member Cyril Van Selus and Member Gene Gerino.
STAFF PRESENT: Police Chief Jim Kelly, Assistant City Attorney Steven Gross, and Civil Service
Secretary Terry Mendoza.
ACTION: Chairman Kammeyer called the meeting to order at 3:33 p.m.
Approval of fhe June 8, 2010, Civil Service Commission meeting minutes:
• Minutes were accepted as written. Motion by Member Cerino; Member Van Selus seconded.
Approval of the June 29, 2010, Police Services Supervisor Eligibility list:
• Eligibility list approved. Motion by Member Cerino; Member Van Selus seconded.
Approval of the July 7, 2010, Police Services Specialist Eligibility list:
• Eligibility list approved. Motion by Member Cerino; Member Van Selus seconded.
Approval to set next testing dafe for Entry Level Police Officer:
• Request approved: Motion by MemberVan Selus; Member Cerino seconded.
Approval of a Provisional Sergeant Appointment for Officer Dan O'Neil:
• Provisional Appointment approved. Motion by Member Van Selus; Member Cerino seconded.
Approval to begin the Promotional Examination process for the positions of Assistant Chief, Commander
and Sergeant:
• Request approved. Motion by Member Cerino; Member Van Selus seconded.
UPDATES:
Chief Kelly provided the Commission with the following updates:
• His official letter of intent to retire has been submitted to the Mayor and it will be effective
September 30, 2010.
• Jean Price, currently the top candidate on the Police Services Supervisor Eligibility List, has been
interviewed and accepted a promotion as Police Services Supervisor: The effective date is July .
12, 2010.
• Due to recent retirements in the Police Department, a vacancy has occurred in the rank ofi
Sergeanf; however; #he current eligible candidate is on military leave. As such, a Provisional
Sergeant Appointment has been offered to Officer Dan O'Neil and he has accepted.

Assistant City Attorney Steven Gross announced the hiring of an additional Assistant City Attorney, Doug
Ruth.
Terry Mendoza provided the following updates:
• The recruitment process for Lateral Police Officer continues with one candidate in the background
process.
o Entry Level Police Officer Oral Boards are scheduled for July 22, 2010.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting adjourned at 3:48 p.m.
