Background Summary: The Valley Cities of Algona, Auburn, Federal Way, Kent, Pacific, Renton and Tukwila worked together for reliable and redundant public safety dispatch and communication. City of Auburn sought funds to enhance public safety communication needs and is now eligible to receive grant funds for the development of the Valley Cities Broadband Network to continue the build out of the network specifically in support of secure, CJIS compliant connectivity to the regional 911 center and neighboring jurisdictions. Councilmember: Backus Staff: Rem her Meeting Date: September 20, 2010 Item Number: V111.13.3 AUBURN * MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED RESOLUTION NO. 4 6 4 3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF AUBURN AND THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE ACCEPTING GRANT FUNDS FOR. THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE VALLEY CITIES BROADBAND NETWORK WHEREAS, the Valley Cities of Algona, Auburn, Federal Way, Kent, Pacific, Renton and Tukwila have been working together on a number of issues including reliable and redundant public safety dispatch and communication; and WHEREAS, the Valley Cities and Valley Communications Center sought funds to enhancep ublic safety communication needs and are now eligible to receive grant funds for thep urchase of fiber, conduit, vaults, wireless access points and other network electronics to continue the build out of the network specifically in support of secure, CJ I S compliant connectivity to the regional 911 center and to neighboring jurisdictions; and WHEREAS, the funding will also allow the expansion of wireless access points through the communities to increase connectivity to the new IP based Computer Aided Dispatch system that is being installed at this time; and WHEREAS, having these access points will allow redundant communications with current cellular service to insure the safety of our officers. NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES as follows: Section 1. The Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute an agreement between the Cit and the U.S. Department of Justice for grant funds in the g y ----------------------------- Resolution No. 4643 September 14, 2010 Page 1 of 2 amount of $150,000, which agreement shall be in substantial conformity with the agreement attached hereto, marked as Exhibit "A" and incorporated herein by this reference. Section 2. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to implement such no administrativep rocedures as may be necessary to carry out the directives of this legislation. Section 3.
