Re: South Division Street Promenade - Gateway Feature
Backqround
At the October 26, 2010 Downtown Redevelopment Committee, staff and the consuttant, KPG,
Inc. presented a gateway feature concept for the South Division Street Promenade project. This
feature could also potentially be replicated at other gateway points into Downtown Aubum.
The Committee provided the following direction to staff:
e Bring back options that incorporate public art or that incorporates an afistic element but
not a public art piece and the associated costs of each option.
o Bring back the potentiaf budget available for the inclusion of public art in the project. Discussion
Staff and the consultant met to,discuss the options and present a recommendation to the
Downtown Redevelopment Committee. The options are outlined as follows:

, StaffRecommendation
Since Option 1 is infeasible without delaying the project, Options 2-4 were evaluated and staff
recommends:
e An option that includes a public art element that would be part of the City's public art
collection; Option 2 with KPG, Inc. designing a background plate and more artistic lettering
for "Dowrrtown Aubum".
• An option that includes an artistic element but would not be part of the City's public art
collection, Staff recommends Option 4.
Review by the Arts: Commission with a reoommendation to the Downtown Redevelopment
Committee for action'would be part of any option.
