Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 2:05 pm by City of Auburn Horticulturist Kirk Hadley. Those Board members attending in addition to Mr. Hadley were Lonnie Sundal, Karen Wright and Arnie Galli. Also present at the meeting was Parks Secretary Julie Mehl. II. Minutes There were no minutes as the September meeting was cancelled. III. Correspondence/Public Input Kirk Hadley reports that Garden Club member Jan Speer has begun the application process for a neighborhood grant at Ballard Park requiring 200 citizen volunteer hours. The project will entail paving for parking strip area and adding more shrubs. IV. Old Business Significant tree owner Mike Harbin will be announced at the October 18th City Council meeting. Julie will let the board and Mike Harbin know what time when the agenda is posted. Kirk reminded the board that we are open to suggestions for 2011 Significant Tree. Arnie Galli suggested the Copper Beech Tree at Mountain View Cemetery which is 90 - 100 years old. The Neighborhood Tree Grant has been submitted to the Planning Department to remove diseased trees on Park Avenue and replace them with Kousa Dogwoods. Activity Center/Gymnasium is still on schedule. The parking lot should be complete by the end of October. V. New Business AU BU RN - M01ZE THAN YOU IMAGINED VI. Board Recom mendations/In put There are still two vacancies on the Tree Board. Karen will ask her neighbor if she's interested and Amie will try to recruit a fellow volunteer at the White River Valley Museum. Lonnie informed the 'board that the Garden Club has adopted the Backyard Idea Garden and has cleaned up a large area of overgrowth. They plan on planfing low growing plants to replace what they removed. VII. Department Report Tree Coordination Meeting - Mike Miller attended training for the Cartegraph system. The city will be using this to track, coordinate and resolve tree issues. The September lith Eagle Scout project consisted of planting native vegetation at the White River Trail. An upcoming Eagle Scout project will entail the planting of 57 trees. Kirk reports that the three Cottonwood trees behind the Parks Administration Building have been removed for safety reasons. Kirk asked the board for recommendations for a replacement tree. Mike Miller has recommended a Sequoia tree, they grow quickly and provide much shade. VIII.
