Allied Waste Services has been providing solid waste services to approximately 750 customers in this area under a franchise agreement with the City. On March 1, 2011, the City of Auburn's contracted hauler, Waste Management, will begin providing garbage, recycle, and yard waste service to residents in the Southwest Lea Hill Annexation Area. City of Auburn staff have met with customer service and operations representatives from Allied Waste Service and Waste Management to discuss the transition process. The two haulers will also be meeting soon to develop the operational strategy for changing out containers. The following is the proposed outreach timeline for communicating the service change to residents: • Mid-January 2011 - Mail post card briefly describing service change • End of January 2011 - Call from City of Auburn briefly describing service change • Beginning of February 2011 - Mail letter detailing service change, billing, rates, collection days, etc • Mid-February 2011 - Press Release and information on the City's website and social network sites • February 25, 2011 - Call from Waste Management to inform residents about new container and recycle calendar delivery on February 28th • March 4, 2011 - Call from Waste Management to instruct residents to call Waste Management if they haven't received their new containers Southwest Lea Hill residents will see the following changes in their solid waste service: lower solid waste rates, no rental fees on containers, monthly billing, weekly yard waste collection, and mandatory service. Solid Waste Division staff are working closely with the haulers to ensure a smooth transition for residents.
