HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-14-2010Minutes Tuesday, December 14, 2010 2:30 p.m. Conference Room Parks, Arts & Recreation Administration Building Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 2:35 pm by Kirk Hadley. Those Board members attending were Lonnie Sundal, Karen Wright, Arnie Galli and Bryce Landrud. Also present at the meeting were Parks Horticulturist Kirk Hadley and Parks Secretary Julie Mehl. Minutes November meeting minutes approved with discussed corrections. III. Correspondence/Public Input City Tree Coordination Program is hoping to get information out to citizens about tree care, maintenance and other tree related issues. IV. Old Business The Board hopes to put Copper Beech tree at Mountain View Cemetery on the February Council Agenda as Significant Tree. Neighborhood Tree Grant on Park Avenue has not been approved yet, hoping for a January approval. City staff will remove 15 dead or dying trees and stumps, Eagle Scout candidate will plant 20 - 25 Kousa Dogwood trees. Karen Wright asked who will be responsible for pruning, Kirk assured her the City will care for and prune the new trees. Activity Center / Gymnasium - the parking lot is off schedule, supposed to have been done on the 201h 2011 Work Plan was reviewed by the Board and approved as is. V. New Business Chair for 2011 - Bryce Landrud, unanimously approved by the board. AUBURN *MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED Article for Auburn Reporter was reviewed by Board, Bryce made one change "trees don't heal, they recover." VI. Board Recommendations/Input VII. Department Report White River Trail ceremony was held November 301h, 40 people attended. Tree City USA application has been submitted. Tree Coordination Program meeting to be held Wednesday, December 15 at 1:00 pm. 17 Cottonwood trees were removed from Lakeland Hills Park, neighbors were notified and there were no complaints. New energy efficient Game Farm Park lights should be completely installed at the end of today. The entire project should be complete by Christmas. Kirk Hadley informed the board that the large Maple trees surrounding Pioneer Cemetery need to be removed as they have become diseased or have died. They will be replaced with nine Autumn Blaze Maple trees. The city will post signs on site and issue a press release. Bryce Landrud informed the board the City of Tacoma posts plastic signs on trees months in advance to inform citizens why and when trees are going to be removed. VIII.
