The October 25, 2010 meeting was called to order at 3:00 p.m. at City Hall Annex, One Main Street, Aubum, WA. Committee Members present were: Chair Suzanne Limric, Bette Van Gasken, JoAnne Watters, Chuck Booth, Daryl Thompson, Marian Thomas, Tony Ladner, Barbara Derda, Lela Brugger, Virginia Lloyd-Baron and Michael Harbin Staff aresent were: Community Senrices Manager Michael Hursh and Project Assistant Kirsten Reynolds Guests aresent were: President and Director of St. Vincent de Paul Dave Patnode II. AGENDA e Annual Action Plan - Community Services Manager Michael Hursh explained the 2011/2012 agency funding recommendations were placed in the Annual Action Plan. The Action Plan has passed through Aubum City Council for the required public hearing; Council has not yet approved the amount of human services funding, but will review the entire budget in November. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES • Review of August 25, 2010 minutes - Member Derda asked for a modification regarding the new agency funding section of prior minutes; the agency listed was not a new agency and should be removed. • o Member Ladner motioned to accept the August 25, 2010 minutes with modification; Member Derda seconded the motion. ■ The August 25, 2010 minutes were approved. IV. AGENDA CONTINUED • Planning & Community Development & Human Services Committee joint meeting - Mr. Hursh and Chair Suzanne Limric briefly recapped the joint meeting held on September 27, 2010. Members of the Planning & Community Development Committee (PCDC) expressed their gratitude for the work each and every one of the Human Services Committee Members put in to make this a better community and a smooth funding process. • Sf. Vincent de Paul Presentation Because St. Vincent de Paul was recommended for 2011>2012 Human Services Funding, the President and Director of St. Vincent de Paul Dave Patnode was asked to give a presentation. Mr. Patnode first clarified the difference befinreen St: Vincent de Paul Society and the St. Vincent de Paul Store. The Society was founded in France by a college student, it's a Catholic based organization and active in 147 diffe"rent counfries. The Stores help support the Society by generating revenue. The Aubum store is completely independent, all donations and proceeds go directly back in to the Auburn community. St. Vincent de Paul offers rent assistance once a year; they also assist with utility 6ills that are overdue and in danger of being shut off. The food program allows clients to pick up food once a month. Food donations are augmented with some high protein items that must be purchased. Auburn residents make up 95% of their cliental. V. ADDITIONAL TOPICS _ • There was brief discussions amongst the Committee regarding the following topics: ACAP - originally had 60-80 kids, now they have 16 kids enrolled in the childcare program.; The agency is going through lots of changes, including, but not limited.to, a new Interim Executive Director. ■ Healthy Cooking on a Tight Budget Program - a new series has'begun and is being.promoted via the partnerships befinreen the YMCA, Food Bank, Cityof Auburn and Mosby's Farm. Attendance is good and added benefits are free childcare during the cooking class and free day use of the YMCA facility. Classes are held on Fridays during the month of October (1St, 8th, 15t', 22"a & 29t') from 11 a.m. -1 P.M. The next cooking class series will be offered in February 2011 at the YMCA. ■ Aubum Valley Creative Arts Fundraising Dinner will be held on November 20,. 2010 at the Truitt Building. Contact Lela Brugger for more information. VI. NEXT MEETING - The next meeting is scheduled for November 22, 2010. The following meeting will be scheduled for December 27, 2010 at 3 p.m. VII.
