Tuesday, January 4, 201f Meeting Minutes

Excused: Cary Davidson, Deborah Deal I'. Call to Order, Approval of Minutes, Introductions and Approval of Minutes: Chair Patricia Judd called the
meeting to order at 4:30 pm. Greg Watson moved to approve the December 2010 meeting minutes and Donna
Smart seconded.the motion. Motion approved.
New commissioners Heidi Harris, DeNae McGee and Ronnie Schwend were introduced and were welcomed as
new commissioners.
II. Retreat Planning
- Saturday, March 19, 10 am -2 pm in the Veteran's Building is the confirmed time for the Arts Commission
Retreat. Linda Elliot noted that she would be unable to attend that date. Agenda items will include the City
Attorney providing a'nuts-and-bolts' overview of commission work in City govemment, working in conjunction
with the Planning staff, as well as brainstorming and setting goals forthe future. Commission input on
developing additional agenda items was discussed. Commissioner Sader noted that representation form the
. Tourism board may be beneficial. Commissioner Watson noted the importance of public art in the downtown
redevelopment. Commissioner Moore noted that updating the % for art should be on the goals for upcoming
year.
III. 2011 Gallery Participants
Maija McKnight provided an overview of the exhibits and artists selected to participate in the 2011 City Hall and
Cheryl Sallee Gallery at the Senior Center. Applications were collected and 21 individual artists will be displayed
as well as group shows that will be coordinated with the Aubum Valley Creative Arts group, Good OI' Days, Artist
Tivst EDGE Program Graduates, as well as a student art show. A gallery brochure is in process and will be
delivered by the end of fhe month. ,
IV. 2011 Upcoming Year
Staff provided a calendar spreadsheet listing various arts and culture events that are scheduled throughout the
year. The calendar and events throughout the year were discussed:

, V. Committee/Program Area Report
No committee-meetings occurred in December.
Maija McKnight provided an overview ofsome of the changes that have occurred to the public art project in Les
Gove Park on the Activity Center climbing wall gate. Design modification is required with these changes and will
be presented at a future meeting.
VI. OtheNNew/Upcoming Business ,
A downtown artwalk is being planned by members of the Aubum Valley Creative Arts and the Downtown
Business District: Regular meetings are 6eing held and staff and members of the visual art committee have
been attending when possible. If you wquld like to receive meeting notices please let staff know.
All committee meetings will be held in City Hall instead of the Parks, Arts and Recreation Building until further
notice. •
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
