Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Joanne Macnab at 3:10 pm. Advisory Board Members present: Ronnie Roberts, Jeff Viney, Maggie Greenslit, Trudy Ginther, Linda Morris, Burr and Rosella Mosby. City Staff/Council present: Parks Director Daryl Faber, Councilman Bill Peloza, Interim Market Manager Joanne Macnab, Parks Secretary Julie Mehl. Also present: Kathleen Keator, Executive Director of the Auburn Downtown Association. IL Minutes The minutes of the February meeting were reviewed and Mr. Roberts motioned to approve as corrected. Mr. Viney seconded. III. Market Manager Report - Joarule Macnab A. ,loanne Macnab presented Burr Mosby with a certificate of appreciation from the 2009 season. B. 36 vendors have signed up to date. The general feedback has been vendors felt as if they were "in the dark". Ms. Macnab sent an information letter to all vendors. C'I'he south side banner is now displayed with the current dates and most other banners have been posted throughout the city. D. The site plan has not been revised. The stall near the dLimpsters will not be utilized this year. E. The first volunteer meeting was held Wednesday, May 26`h. The volunteers are eager to participate in the market this season_ t. , r IV. Correspondence/Public Input A. Trudy Ginther..asked if entertainers had been paid. Daryl Faber added we will have entertainment on opening day only. Joanne Macnab said the entertainer . "Jimmy Free" claims he had an agreement with Lillie Brinker for $300 but had not heard from Lillie. He plays music from the 60's, 70's and 80's. B. Councilmember Peloza stated that Miss Auburn and Mayor Lewis will be , attending on opening day. He also shared that the 2010 Sound Transit Agreement is in place. Pressure washing has been requested, restrooms will need to be cleaned Saturday evening. It was recommended that "2010" and artist name & high school be listed on the AIFM postcazd. Mr. Peloza also shared that Rob Roscoe will close "B" street during market hours. There will be a rose pruning work party June 5 from 1-3, volunteers needed. C. Kathleen Keator mentioned there will be two children's dance performances on opening day as she conta.cted the wrong children's dance studio. Auburn Children's Dance Theater and Auburn Dance Center. She has also contacted Dianne Saar regazding Kayla Hoover to see ifthey have been producing posters and judging for 2011. D. Ronnie Roberts mentioned we need more cards printed and we need to promote the market more. Burr Mosby commented if the weather doesn't improve it may not maxter. V. Old Business A. Chairperson Macnab sfiared the layout of the A-Frames and a copy of the driving directions. Jeff Viney volunteered to produce a map with colored location dots. Joanne Macnab will check on the status of volunteer badges. VI. New Business A. Changes to Advisory Board - Pazks Director Faber stated that the boazd will need to eleet a new chair and advertise an open position. He suggested a11 board members spread the word and we'll.inform the Mayor. Jeff Viney suggested we review the old list. Daryl said he didn't mind if the board ran with Joanne Macnab as the chair today sirice this is the final meeting of the season. We have until October to fill the open position and nominate/vote for a new chairperson. B. Trudy Ginther asked about Joanne's interim Mazket Manager position contract being `on season' and `off season'. Daryl replied off season hours are funding focused. . C. Ronnie Roberts asked if antique and jewelry vendors should be allowed to participate in the market. He said last year there was a conflict about records. Rosella Mosby asked if the Market Manager has the final say. Joanne Macnab offered to send out the current guidelines. Kathleen Keator requested a list of vendors to take to the Auburn Downtown Association Board so they can verify and approve vendors. She recommended we put the AIFM on their website to promote downtown and cross market each other as a trade for booth space. Ronnie Roberts suggested the Auburn Downtown Association have a booth to show what they offer and to promote downtown businesses. Joanne Macnab added that last yeaz the ADA booth was open for any downtown business to use. Kathleen heazd it was empty each week and is reconsidering the expense. Ronnie said the ADA booth was vacant each week because boards were turning over and hoping for more interest in promoting their businesses in the booth. D. Maggie Crreenslit offered to submit a gazdening website article for June. She wasn't planning on it but can be talked into it. Joanne Macnab agreed it would be great. Joarine Macnab found a stack of pages for a child's coloring book from Kids Day last year. Maggie said she won't be able to do anything for Kids Day this year. Joanne thanked Maggie for the cowbell she brought to the meeting for opening day. VII. Board Recommendations/Input A. Ronnie Roberts commented the big thing last year was that there was not enough food vendors. We need to sustain the market without grant funds and he suggested we get a barbecue from Costco and, sell burgers and hot dogs to . increase revenue. His idea is that each week a difFerent non-profit could run the barbecue station and earn some of the proceeds while promoting their , business. Ronnie also suggested that we advertise on busses, inexpensive ` television ads and/or radio. Joanne agreed those are all very good ideas. Kathleen Keator asked if we will sell beverages as well, Joanne replied "yes". - Trudy said other markets have plenty of food vendors. Burr said we'll need more than one person flipping burgers. Kathleen recommended we have a 30 minute "taste" of free bite size portions of food from vendors. Burr suggested we put the logo on the cowbelL Pazks Director Faber will look into the barbecue, he said the youth council would be interested as well. He said the Parks Department has six grills we might be able to use. Maggie asked about temperature issues with ground beef and suggested we just do hot dogs. B. Ronnie Roberts inquired about the permit for the market and said he paid $375 for his this year. Director Faber said the permit is seasonal. Ronnie commented that King County pernut prices were increasing from $400 to $900. . C. Jeff Viney will contact Gyro vendorto see if he plans on participating this year. D. Ronnie Roberts added,by Tuesday morning he would have information regarding his barbecue idea. Maggie asked who would cook and he offered to if she would run his booth. Burr 1Vlosby asked if the Longhorn Barbecue would be participating this year. Ronnie said he complained because he sigried up to get catering jobs and didn't make enough money. Maggie Greenslit asked if we should.have cotton candy. Kathleen commented that it wasn't healthy. Trudy said it would give the market a - `fair' feeling. VIII. Adjournment There being no further business, Maggie Greenslit:motioned to adjourn. Ronnie Roberts seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 4:34.
