Advisory Board Meeting Minutes
Friday, March 25, 2011
Auburn City Hall Annex Room #3 - 3:00 pm
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by Trudy Ginther at 3:06 pm. Advisory Board
Members present: Ronnie Roberts, Maggie Greenslit, Trudy Ginther, Linda
Morris. City Staff/Council present: Market Manager Joanne Macnab,
Councilman Bill Peloza, Parks Secretary Julie Mehl. Also present: Prospective
members Paul Mallary and Mark Wayne.
Minutes
Minutes of January 14th and March 4th approved, motioned by Ronnie Roberts,
seconded by Maggie Greenslit.
III. Market Manager Report - Joanne Macnab
A. 2011 Rules & Regulations and Vendor Application went live on-line March
22nd as did our newly revised Sponsorship Opportunity package form. 83
Vendor packets were mailed out March 241H
B. It has been confirmed we no longer need a City Permit for the market.
C. Volunteer meetings have begun, twice per month and we have decided on six
dedicated "theme" days for this season. June 19 - Sound Transit and Metro
Appreciation Day. July 10th -Kids Day. July 24th - Dog Days of Summer.
August 7th - Vendor Recognition Day (National Farmers Market week).
September 11th - Remembrance Day. September 18th - Senior Appreciation
Day.
D. Seattle Tilth will be farming 10 acres near Camp Berachah. This is a
program which teaches 16 farmers/8 farming businesses from Africa,
Somalia and the Congo to be self sufficient farmers. They would like to have
one farmer at our market and another at the Des Moines market. They will
be bringing vegetables and herbs to the market.
E. We received $500 from our first sponsor, Auburn MultiCare Clinic.
F. Banner placement: Sunset Park, Lea Hill, and one in Algona/Pacific. Paul &
Linda to let us know placement in Algona/Pacific.
G. Websites have been updated with our 2011 information, and we continue to
post on Facebook and Twitter.
IV. Council report - Bill Peloza
A. Meeting with Sound Transit and Metro was successful. A proposal was
presented regarding vacating the land on Sundays during market season.
Information Services is preparing a letter with the Mayor's signature to be
sent to Sound Transit.
B. Offered to spearhead hand wash station project. Waste Management has
signed a contract with the City of Auburn through 2017. Bill has asked them
to sponsor hand wash station(s). Will also compare prices with Costco. They
would receive a booth in exchange for partnership. Market dates will be
posted on the Waste Management website.
V. Correspondence/Public Input
VI. Old Business
A. Joanne to purchase new banner for south side of parking garage.
Discussion included whether to only put the web address on banner vs too
much information. Colors black & red. Motion to order 38'x 6' in black & red
by Linda Morris, Ronnie Roberts seconds.
VII. New Business
A. Budget review - Joanne handed out budget (with added "budget" column).
Spent $7,508.25 January 1St through March 22, 2011. Signs to come out of
"professional services". $18,601.57 `to date' funds, $31,000 budget.
B. State level B&O taxes on all vendor stalls is applicable. Joanne is having
1.8% of vendor stalls only fixed. Recap showed $4.95, which is over.
C. Ronnie asked if the market charged sales tax for sales of t-shirts, bags etc.
Joanne said no, she will look into.
VIII. Board Recommendations/Input
A. Maggie Greenslit called Kathy Emmert at the Auburn Police Department
regarding the Fire Fighters and Policemen's chili cook off. Kathy will see if
there is interest regarding the market.
B. Maggie also reports the Master Gardeners will work on Kids Day event at the
YMCA. They will have worms for the kids. She knows someone who is
interested in "dog friendly" plants for the "Dog Days of Summer" event. Will
also do her best for April garden tips.
C. Linda Morris asked if the Girl Scouts would be involved in opening day and
whether there will be a flag ceremony. It was also asked if there would be a
high school marching band. Linda commented there will be a Zumba Gold
demonstration on "Senior Appreciation Day". Kiwanis pancake breakfast will
include a band (opening day).
D. Trudy Ginther inquired about Burr Mosby's lack of attendance. Bill Peloza
recommended asking Burr for a letter of resignation.
E. Joanne reminded the board that sponsorship packages are posted on the
AIFM website.
F. Trudy announced the next meeting will be held on April 29 at 3:00 pm in
conference room #2 at the City Hall Annex. Trudy also mentioned our board
is not listed in the City of Auburn's website.
IX. Adjournment
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:00 pm.
