III. Correspondence/Public Input
A. Mike Miller shared that there was a good turnout for the Arbor Day Tree Planting, the
Auburn Garden Club and the District Garden Club had great attendance. There was also a nice
article in the Auburn Reporter promoting Arbor Day (written by Len Elliott & Mike Miller).
Maggie commented that April is not an ideal time to plant trees. Kirk said we can change that
to Fall since that is the best time to plant, it also sends a good message/reminder to the public
regarding planting & care.
B. Mike Miller recommended a summer article containing pruning tips such as light pruning is
ok after leaves have set.' Anything which needs larger tools than hand pruners would not be a
good idea. Jan offered to write an article, just needs content. It was recommended that we
submit an article each quarter which we can use year after year.
C. Kathleen Keator with the Auburn Downtown Association will promote the "Do not top trees"
posters throughout downtown area businesses. Jan Speer recommended a campaign to
educate business owners regarding tree care. Plant Amnesty' will send out various types of
information. Jan also noted there was a great article in the Seattle Times regarding the issue.
IV. Old Business
A. Mike Miller handed out a photo of an Oak Tree located on Auburn Way N near Radio
Shack which Bryce suggested for the 2012 Significant Tree.
AUBURN *MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED

shift. The booth will have brochures, flyers and book marks.
