Members present: Richard Artura, Jamie Botheli, Tom Campbell, Gator Chamberlain, Cam Cutler, Megan
Evans, Julie Herren, Gerry Honeysett, Mike Miller, Kim Perry, Judi Roland, Lisa Scarff,

1. Call to Order, Introductions, Approval of Minutes President Judi Roland
President Roland called the meeting to order and asked for the approval of the minutes for April 2011.

. II. Board President Report President Roland
A. President Roland reviewed the museum calendar noting the upcoming committee meetings
and upcoming museum events. A condolence card for the family of Vera Richards, a
committed museum volunteer and daughter of former Auburn Mayor West, who recently
passed away, was provided for the board to sign. '
B. Photos of Board Members - completed.
C. Museology 101, Mockleshoot Room Exhibit Case Patricia Cosgrove '
A descriptive tour of the exhibit case presented by Director Cosgrove expanded the WRVM
6oards understanding of Sla-Hal, also known as stick game, an ancient and raucous -
gambling game in.which indigenous tribe adults participate to this day. Discussion of the
baskets included description of the materials and methods used to craft them as well as
their specific purposes.. The exhibit case base is draped with a Hudson's Bay blanket:
III. Committees '
A. Finance Committee Richard Artura
• 03/31/2011 Treasurer's Report
Richard Artura discussed the month end report for March clarifying the details. In
addition, speaking on behalf of the audit committee he expressed their appreciation of
the efforts of Kristin Bruhahn toward the swift and complete fulfillment of each point of
the audit recommendations/requests.
The Other People's Money (OPM) report indicates that this was a good month for
fundraising. Director Cosgrove met with Daryl Faber, Director of Parks, Arts and
Recreation, City of Auburn and made budgetaryadjustments which freed up funds to
allow for the continuation of the .5 contract for the remaindec of the year supporting the
position of Curator of Collections currently held by Hilary Pittenger. B. Collections Management Committee Jamie Bothell
• A thorough written report, submitted by the committee, and orally reviewed by Chair
Bothell provided an update of this committee's work. Accepted artifacts presented to the
board for perusal included a watercolor of the Mary Olson Farm, Navel recruitment
posters and a 1960s men's necktie made of feathers.
C. P.R. Committee Tom Campbell -
• Committee meets following the monthly board meeting. ,

e Expqsure of new acquisitions and exhibits obtained include the cooperation befinreen our
local clothing store:Rottles & the Janzen corporation toward the provision of front
window-dressing'at the store relating to our exhibit opening on May 3rd, as well as an
~ article to be published within the Tacoma NewsTribune.
• P.R. firm connection is still desired. Board members are encouraged to ponder potential
P.R. contacts.
D. Halloween Costume Ball Committee Kim Perry
Committee members each reported:
• Sponsorships- Gator Chambelain will structure the May sponsorship sales activity.
• Auction- Sharon Maddax: a solicitation letter will be distributed to members of the
' Chamber of Commerce along with personal contact and Sharon is creating a
spreadsheet to track auction solicitation progress. Theme baskets are encouraged and
a list of basket ideas, prepared by Lisa Scartf, will be distributed to the group. • Ticket Sales/Table Captains- Kim Perry distributed, and reviewed the contents, of
Halloween Ball packets prepared for each board member. Packets included Save the .
Date Postcards, 8 numbered Tickets & Sales log, Program Sample and Ad Flyers, and
Sponsorship Flyers. A contest related to ticket sales will occur. Personal contact is
encouraged when sponsorships, program ads and invitations to attend are extended.
• Wine Raffle- Aubum Wine 8 Caviar, a local business has committed to sponsorship of
the wine raffle with the donation of 30 to 40 bottles of wine.
• Decorations- review of current stock of decorations in consideration with event room
dimensions will allow the decorations committee to detertnine what suppties are needed.
All board members can participate in the actual sef-up the moming of the event date.
Many donation & sponsorship commitments are already acquired as shared by various
board members during the discussion of tfie Halloween Ball. The donors and their
commitments wilt be recorded upon a spread sheet and available for review:
E. Education/Events Committee Mike Miller
Event dates:
• June 18th is the date set for the opening of the farm. Activities planned are old fashioned
outdoor kid's games and a ribbon clipping formally opening each farm site of interest
• September 20 Hops & Crops. Chairman Miller has obtained a$2,000. Sponsarship for
the Hops & Crops event from the Station Bistro recently opened at the Sounder Station.
In addition, the proprietor of the Bistro's brofher-in-law au#hors a`beer blog' on fFie
internet and will promote our event. Erin Hash announced that at this time, 5 breweries
and 3 music acts are committed for the event.
IV. Staff Report Patricia Cosgrove
A. Mary Olson Farm: Opening day celebration is planned for June 18'" from 11am to 2pm.
Dave Clark, contractor, is now working on gravel walkways. Interpretive panels are in
fabrication and soon will be installed. It is hoped patches of grass will have grown over
septic tank areas by the 18"' of June. The radiant heat under the floors has proven '
temperamental and needs correction.
B. Exhibit Opening: Yellow Polka Dot Bikinis and Tummy Crunches: A Century of Fema/e
Bodies and Swimsuits, a swimwear and body esthetics exhibit preview event is Tuesday
May 3nd from 5 to 7 p.m.
