SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
October 4, 1988
Those present included Council�embers Brothers, Burns, Kurle,
Larson, Walters, and Whittall; Mayor Roegner; Joe Turner from the
Tacoma News Tribune; and Brenda Day from the Valley Newspapers.
The meeting was convened at 4 p.m. by Councilmember Bud Larson, �
who chaired as the senior member of the Council. The purpose of
the meeting was to interview candidates for former Councilmember
Linda Wisner's position.
The following candidates were interviewed: Robert Kline, Robert
Moliter, E.R. (ROn) Blatt, Landon Gibson, Patrick Cimino, Rich
Wagner, Martha Hubbard and Judith Roland.
At the conclusion of the interviews, the meeting was continued to
October 13 at 5 p.m. for the purpose of interviewing Council can-
didate Glenn Rodenhurst.

Continued Council Meeting Minutes
October 13, 1988
In attendance were Councilmembers Brothers, Burns, Kurle,
Larson, Walters, and whittall; and David Danielski from the
Valley Newspapers.
The meeting was reconvened at 5:00 p.m. and the City Council
interviewed Council candidate Glen Rodanhurst for the vacant
Council position.
At the conclusion of the interview, the City Council went
into Executive Session to discuss all candidates for the
vacant position.
The Executive Session adjourned at 6:00 p.m. with
Councilmember Bud Larson indicating the Council wanted to
re-interview candidates Rich Wagner and Judy Roland.
Councilmember Larson indicated both candidates would be
invited for a second interview at 6:00 p:m., Monday, October
17, 1988, in the Council Work Area at Auburn City Hall.
There being no further business, the Council continued its
meeting to October 17, 1988, at 6:00 p.m.

Councilmember Larson reconvened the continued October 13 meeting
of the Auburn City Council at 6 p.m.
� Those in attendance included Councilmembers Brothers, Surns,
Kurle, Larson, Walters and Whittall; Mayor Roegner; Joe Turner
from the Tacoma News Tribune; and Brenda Day from the Valley
Newspapers.
Council candidate Rich Wagner was interviewed by the City Council
followed by Council candidate Judi Roland.
At the conclusion of the interviews, initial discussion centered
on process as to whether the deliberations of the Council should
be open to the public or in executive session. At the conclusion
of the discussion, Councilman Brothers moved to exclude the press
and candidates and have the deliberations in Executive Session.
Councilman Burns seconded the motion. The motion failed for lack
of a majority with Councilmembers Brothers, Burns, and Larson
voting "aye", Co�ncilmembers Walters, Whittall and Kurle voting

Motion by Councilmember Whittall, second by Councilmember Walters
to keep the deliberations open to the press but exclude the can-
didates. Motion carried 4-2 with Councilmembers Walters,
Whittall, Kurle, and Larson voting "aye", and Councilmembers
Brothers and Burns voting "nay".
� A straw ballot was taken with the result being a 3-3 tie for each
of the Council candidates. Additional discussion regarding
qualifications of the candidates' areas of interest and policies
followed. Another vote was taken with Council candidate Judi
Roland winnin9 6-0.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
