HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE
MINUTES

1. CALL TO ORDER
THe Human Services Committee Meeting was called to order on Monday, May 23, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at
One Main Street, Aubum, WA.
Gommittee Members oresent were: Suzanne Limric, Bette Van Gasken, Chuck Booth, LelaBrugger,Virginia Lloyd-Baron,

Staff oresent were: Community Services Manager Michael Hursh and Project Assistant Kirsten Reynolds
11: APPROVAL OF MINUTES
• Review of April 25, 2011 minutes
■ All Committee Members were in favor of adopting the April 25, 2011
minutes as submitted. The April 25, 2011 minutes were approved.
IIP. AGENDA
. Human Services Agency Visits
Community Services Manager Michael Hursh talked about setting up annual visits to non
CDBG City funded agencie§; the goal is to engage Human Services Committee Members
with agency representatives to 6uild strongerp"artnerships between the City of Auburn and
tfie funded agency(s).
The visitation teams consisting of one ?eam Lead and a minimum of two Committee
Members. The Team Lead will coordinate with their team members and with the randomly
selected agencies to set appointments. Teams will each be given a site visit checklist to
help guide theirteam visits; teams will review general administration, program performance
(specific to 4he program funded by the City of Aubum) and review of their Board of
Directors information. Once visits are completed each Team Lead will report details from
visits to the entire Human Services Gommittee. `
. CDBG Plan Amendment
Mr. Hursh discussed a great opportunity to help b�ing a new support service to our
community; Terry Home, Inc. currenUy owns and operates a boarding home for young adult
survivors of Traumatic Brain Injuries in Pacific, they are looking to open a second home in
Auburn.
The agency provides their residents with the opportunity to work toward a more
independent lifestyle through structured programs and activities centered on strengthening
daily living skills. The mission of Terry Home is to promote purpose, privacy and
independence for each person in a comfortable, home-like atmosphere. Terry Home holds
a Boarding Home license from Washington State through the Department of Social and
Health Services.
Previously planed projects scfieduled to utilize Community Development Block Grant
(CDBG) 108 Debt Service Loan funding, has been reassigned to assist Terry Home, Inc.
locate their second home in Aubum. This action requires staff to amend the Gity of
Aubum's Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER). They are
receiving separate funds from the State and some County funding. Terry Home II is
planning to locate next to the Aubum Fred Meyer. The property is scheduled to be
purchased in fall of 2012.
• Pets in the City Brochures
A new resource brochure on pets was handed out to Committee Members as a reference;
tliis public resource educates people on owning animals and ihe responsibilities of being a
pet owner within 4he City of Aubum. The resource includes a variety ofi information
including: low cost meiiical care, pet food banks, pet training, shelters, disaster
preparedness for pets, licensing and tags, leash laws, mistreatment of animal and
potentially dangerous dogs.

The next meeting is scheduledfor Monday, June 27, 2011.
