Minutes
Wednesday, September 7, 2011

Parks, Arts & Recreation Administration Building
I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 2:06 pm by Bryce Landrud. Those Board members
I attending in addition to Mr. Landrud were Maggie Greenslit, Lonnie Sundal, Arnie Galli and Jan
Speer. Also present at the meeting were Parks Horticulturist Kirk Hadley, Environmental
Planner Jamie Kelly and Parks Secretary ]ulie Mehl.
II. Minutes
June and August meeting minutes were reviewed and Bryce moved to approve, Jan seconded.
III. Correspondence/Public Input
A. Jan asked about 'Tree Ciry USA'. Kirk replied that the honor allows us to apply for
grants we would not otherwise be eligible for. We apply for those grants in January.
B. Bryce stated he would like to see tree inventory. Kirk responded at this time we have
not been able to coordinate with Information Services.
C. Lonnie mentioned the article in USA Today regarding Discovery Playground. Only five
cities in the US were highlighted including Auburn's Discovery Playground.
D. Kirk has been getting some calls from citizens who would like to donate tree(s).
Unfortunately this is done on a limited basis due to sta�ng.
IV. Old Business
A. Summer pruning article — the printing of the article in the Auburn Reporter was delayed
because of a space issue, per Bryce.
B. Kirk reports maintenance services is the focus in fall; planting and pruning. Jan
recommended including planting suggestions, size & type, and reminder that fall is the
best time to plant because of the rain. Jan volunteered to write article.

VI. Board Recommendations/Input
VII. Department Report
A. The off leash area will be located at the north end of Roegner Park. Fencing wiil be
installed starting September 12 and should take two weeks to complete.
B. Gymnasium floor is being installed, October will be the grand opening.
C. Game Farm Park upgrades are complete. Tennis court surface, pickle ball surface and
back walls.
D. Shaughnessy Park upgrades — concrete patio, old play equipment removed, pickle ball
court. New play equipment to be installed late September.
E. Dorothy Bothell Park — Eagle Scout Colton Johnson laid river rock in the shape of a river
and will add landscaping work in the future.
F. Community Garden — Eagle Scout Zane Hill has constructed twelve wheel chair
accessible garden beds.
G. Large Eagle Scout project consisting of over 100 people on September 17`h will include
painting of picnic shelters throughout town, removing ivy, weeding traiis and removing
Scotch Broom.
H. Hops & Crops at Mary Olson Farm will take piace September 24 from noon 6:00 pm.
I. S'more than You Imagined will be held Saturday, October 8 from 6:00 pm — 8:00 pm at
Game Farm Wilderness Park. The Halloween Harvest Festival will be Saturday, October
29 from 2:00 pm — 5:00 pm.
J. Environmental Park Boardwalk —Jamie reports the project will start in the fall before the
rainy season begins. There has been some beaver activity which has caused the storm
water to be still.
VIII. Adjournment
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:53 pm.
