Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 5:36 by Michael Hassen. II. Minutes The minutes of the June meeting were moved to accept by Greg Dobbs, seconded by Richard Artura. III. Committee Member Input A. Greg Dobbs received a citizen complaint about foul language and issues with slippage at the Rotary Spray Park. Daryl Faber replied they are investigating new surfacing for the spray park. Director Faber received a citizen email complimenting the Les Gove Campus for having less"shady" folks recently. Daryl also mentioned there has been an increase in police calls regarding folks bringing alcohol to Isaac Evans park. The Parks Department is working on updating signage for parks throughout town. IV. Correspondence/Public Input V. Old Business A. Director Faber asked the Park Board if they would approve a $25,000 grent through "Kaboom". Vicki Gilthvedt motioned to approve, David Domenowski seconded. The funds will be used to replace the playground equipment at Game Farm Park. B. Open Space Master Plan — Firm needed to update six year Parks Master Plan. Four have responded: Conservation Technix, Pros Consulting, The Beckwith Consulting Group and Studio Cascade Community Planning & Design. Having a Parks Master Plan allows the City to apply for various grants. The Park Board will assist with Master Plan update. The cost will be $12,000 for the survey and we will use Parks staff whenever possible. We will use the current conditions inventory. C. The updated Master Plan will be used for the CIP (Capital Improvement Plan). )ulie Parascondola asked for the current Master Plan or'Cliff's Notes'for the board to review. Susan Black & Associates is the current consultant and Director Faber is working on condensing 200 pages dow� to 40. AUBURN * MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED � VI. New Business A. Momentum Fitness Equipment in Parks — A group of local moms has raised $20,D00 to purchase fitness equipment to be installed near the play area at Discovery Park. This will also include a yoga mat area where folks can stretch — all while their children play at the playground. The equipment should arrive in October and the City will provide the concrete. VII. Department Report A. USA Weekend has named five US cities as"the most playful cities"and Discovery Playground was included! B. Dr. Kip Herren (Auburn School District Superintendant) met with Mayor Lewis regarding Danny Shelton, a local man who was shot. In a two week period staff put together the "Get Up and Get Out" program held at Olympic Middle School. This is a tree, fun drop in program funded through Community Development elock Grant funds. They had 60 — 80 kids participating daily and it induded the free lunch program through the Auburn School District. The YMCA participated by sending staff to assist. C. The second annual Hops & Crops Harvest Festival will be held at the Mary Olson Farm September 24 from noon to 6:00 pm and includes craft beer, live music, food and activites for kids. The farm is open every other week-end for tours. It is a refurbished late 1800's farm where many first graders tour and learn "Where Does Your Food Come From". Sixth graders learn about salmon spawning and there is a camp held at the farm each summer. D. The Auburn Symphony's"Triumph of the American Spirit"free 10 year commemoration concert was held at the Auburn Pertorming Arts Center on September 11 honoring those involved in the 9/11 attacks. E. The new 8ravo brochure has combined the shows at The Auburn Ave Theater and shows to be held at the Auburn Performing Arts Center. Ticket sales have been good. F. LERN critiqued the Registration Guide and Senior Center guide. They gave a good review and some good ideas. The feedback was very positive. G. The off leash area will be open the 2"� week in October at Roegner Park, the fencing will be installed this month. There will be two areas, one for large dogs and one for small dogs. There is no water on site yet but will have poo bags. There is river access for dogs but it's difficult for people to access. There are two or three other areas being considered for future off leash areas. Daryl has spoken with other cities and learned that most don't have fencing and have had surprisingly few issues. VIII.
