I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 2:04 pm by Len Elliott (Bryce Landrud is absent). Those
Board members attending in addition to Mr. Elliott were Maggie Greenslit, Lonnie Sundal, Arnie
Galli and Karen Wright. Also present at the meeting were Parks Horticulturist Kirk Hadley and
Parks Secretary Julie Mehl.
II. Minutes
September minutes were reviewed and approved.
III. Correspondence/Public Input
A. Kirk Hadley passed around an article in 'Arbor Day' magazine regarding the many benefits
of trees.
IV. Old Business
A. Jan Speer (absent) is working on fall article, Maggie has some supporting documents she
will deliver to Jan's home. The board will review, submit to Dana Hinman and forward to
'The Auburn Reporter.'
B. The Auburn Environmental Park is being prepped for volunteer planting project of 2500
shrubs and trees. Volunteers are asked to arrive Odober Sth and/or lSth between the
hours of 9:00 am — 3:00 pm. No pre-registration necessary.
C. Discovery Playground has lost some plants in the sensory garden area due to high use.
V. New Business
A. Eagle Scout planting project will take place before year end at Dorothy Bothell park.

VI. Board Recommendations/Input
A. Len Elliott's fnal board meeting will be December, we will need to find a replacement. Len
asked if anyone else will be retiring from the board. No responsc. Maggie will let Laurie
Sloan know there will be a vacant position on the board.
VII. Department Report
A. Gymnasium Grand Opening — October 11 at 6:00 pm, public is welcome.
B. Shaughnessy Park playground equipment being installed this month.
C. Off leash area at Roegner Park is open.
D. Exercise station being installed at Discovery Playground. Mom group raised $20,000 and
Parks is supplying concrete.
E. Some sensory garden plants have died at Discovery Playground due to high usage.
VIII. Adjournment
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:25 pm.
