1. CALL TO ORDER
The Human Services Committee Meeting was called to order on Monday, September 26, 2011 at 3:00
p.m. aYOne Main Street, Aubum, WA.
Committee Members oreseM: Suzanne Limric;Chuck Booth, Barbara Dercia, Bette Van Gasken,Lela Brugger and
Virginia Lloyd-Baron
Committee Members not present: Michael:Harbin,;Daryf Thompson,Tony Ladner and JoAnne Walters
Staff present: Community Services Manager Michael Hursh and Proj.Assistant Kirsten Reynolds
Visitors aresent: David Bloom
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
• Review of August 26,2011 minutes
o Member Booth motioned to accept the August 26, 2011 minutes; Member Derda seconded the
motion.All Committee Members were in favor of adopting the minutes as submitted.
■ The August 26, 2011 minutes were approved
III. Agenda
• Homelessness Youth - David Bloom, teacher and activist on low-income housing and homelessness issues in
King County was present aY the Sepfember 26TM� committee meeting. Mr. Bloom has served as associate.
director of the Church Council of Greater Seattle where he provided leadership on public policy issues,.
community organizing, civic education .and human services. Mc Bloom is a founder of several local
organizations that provide shelter, build fiousing and organize for social change.
Mr. Bloom currenUy works for Antioch Schools and is teaching a "Homeless 101" course at the Mucklesho.ot
7ribal School. Mr. Bloom was looking for data, information, speakers and trends dealing with homeless yputh
in south King County; the Human Services Committee Members discussed several good contacts that could
potentially assist in the classroom setting as experts.
• SEARCH - Community Seroices Manager Michael Hursh gave a brief update that ten cities are now involVed in
the South End ARCH (SEARCH) inter-local agreement; a regional coalition for housing. These cities represent
the south and south east King County area.
• Agency Visits • Several committee members have done and continue to do theiragency visits. All agency
materials shall be collected by staff and disseminated at a later date.
. Committee Expectations - Discussion took piace regarding the Standard Operating Procedures of'other City
of Aubum Committees and Commissions regarding attendance policies. The Committee asked for a review of
the Human Services Committee Standard Operating Procedures.
IV. NEXT MEETING-The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 24, 2011.
V. ADJOURNMENT-The meeting was adjoumed at 1:30 p.m.
