HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-17-2011 White River Valley Historical Society Board Meeting Minutes August 17, 2011, 1:30 to 3 p.m. Muckleshoot Room,White River Valley Museum Attending: Richard Arture, Ronnie Beyersdorf,lamie Bothell,Tom Campbell, Pat Cavanaugh, Gator Chamberlain, Cam Cutler, Mike Miller, Kim Perry, Mark Thomason,Judi Roland Excused: Megan Evans,Julie Herren, Gerry Honeysett, Lisa ScarFf Absent: Rhonda Larsoh, Keri Nelson Staff Present: Kristen Bruhahn, Rachael Burrum, Patricia Cosgrove, Erin Hash I. Call To Order, Introductions,Approvai of Minutes President Judi Roland II. Board President Report President Roland reviewed the museum's calendarpointing out committee meetings for board members.She told the board that the Museum Services Agreement,the operational document that codifies the relationship between the City and the Society, is coming due this fall. The Executive Committee will work on an updated version t_o bring before the board and take to the City for review and signing. Director Cosgrove toured board members through the newest exhibit: Deod Unearthing the Shift in Funerory Practices from Home to Mortuary. III. Committees Treasurer Beyersdorf Presented the monthly financial report and noted that the Finance Commitfee is scheduled to meet on October 3 at 9 a.m.for their regular quarterly meeting. Jamie Bothell►eported tfiat the Collections Management Committee met and accepted a small number of donations including a historitrolltop desk from Pauline Pierte (for use in the landing in the farmhouse) and a collection of treps;antlers, product packaging and kitchenware from new volunteer extraordinaire Scott Gibbons, again for use at the Farm. The PR Committee did not meet in the previous month. Mike Miller reviewed plans fo�the upcoming Hops &Crops event, noting that all efforts from the Education & Events Committee were focused to that end.The board thanked Mr. Miller for his exceptio�al supportat the farm on this eventand iri cultivating sponsors. Co-chairs Ronnie Beyersdorf and Kim Perry updated the board on plans for the Halloween Costume Ball Committee. Sub-committee chairs reported on their areas:ludi Roland noted that a group were planning omtouring the Casino to discuss decorations and layout; Cam Culter noted that no new sponsors had been attracted since the preVious meeting;ticket Sales were reported on by Kim Perry who handed out ataboy gifts to Jamie Bothell, Mike Miller and Cam Cutler. IV. Staff Report Hops &Crops Festival plans were previewed by Curator of Education (and Events!) Rachael Burrum. Posters have been distributed,tickets ere now available on-line with an extre two samples of beerif purchased before 9/20,the event layout;hasbeen developed, and contractswith musicians, vendors, 6reweries and food purveyors are complete. Patricia Cosgrove notedthat summer open hours at the Mary Olson Farm are going well during this experimental flrst year.Attendance avereges between 20 and 35 persons a day, guesu spend between 30 and 120 minutes at the farm, and many enjoy sitting on the porch chatting about theic personal farm memories. The caretakers are really shining during this time with Ginger milking goats whenever a group eppears interested, Kevin maintaining gardens and sharing chickens witFi visitors, and their children Serious and Sugar-fae engaging visiting children with abandon.They have settled in wondecfully and seem to 6e enjoying their time at the farm. V. Board Members commented Positiyely aboutthe meeting and President Roland adjoumed the meeting at 2:55. Next Board Meeting will be September 21, 2011, 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Farm.
