Parks and Recreation Board Meeting
Minutes
Tuesday, October 4, 2011
5:30 p.m.
Auburn Senior Activity Center, Rotary Room
I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 5:36 by Daryl Faber, Parks Director. Those members present in
addition to Mr. Faber were Greg Dobbs, David Domenowski, Vicki Gilthvedt and John Webley.
Department staff members present were Parks Director Daryl Faber and Parks Secretary Julie Mehl.
II. Minutes
The minutes of the September meeting were moved to accept by Greg Dobbs, seconded by David
Domenowski.
III. Committee Member Input
A. David Domenowski asked what the next step would be for the off leash area at Roegner Park.
Daryl said they will let it run fhroughout the summer and review at that time. The 4'fence has
been constructed and there is no water yet. Director Faber visited an off leash area in Anacortes
and reported that they had milk jugs they rinse and use for their water source.
IV. Correspondence/PublicInput
V. Old Business
A. The Momentum Fitness Equipment will be installed next week at Discovery Playground. The 10' x
50' pad is being installed this week. The equipment includes five pieces plus a stretching area.
There will be a grand opening on Saturday, October ].5 at noon and will include an exercise and
nutrition representative.
B. Daryl shared the Parks Master Plan with the board. Director Faber is hoping to have the master
plan update honed down to about �/a of the current size for the next six year period it covers and
be available online. Most of the updates can be done in-house, some will be completed by an
outside consultant. There is a section for each park including iYs history and what the future
plans are, as well as a public art inventory. The parks are divided by size for the Capital
Facilities Plan quotient. The two main projects to focus on are Jacobsen Tree Farm and the area
on Kersey Way behind the fire station. The plan will include Isaac Evans loop which we are

hoping to connect. Also induded will be lhe Community Center project. The completed plan will
be reviewed by the Planning Commission and then go to full council.
VI. New Business
VII. Department Report
A. New playground equipment is being installed at Shaughnessy Park (past the Muckleshoot Casino).
Daryl mentioned the board should stop by and take a look at the upgrades.
B. The activity center/ gymnasium open house will be held from 5:00 pm — 8:00 pm on Tuesday,
October 11. In mid to late October the Auburn School District busses will be dropping kids from
two middle schools for after school programs. The gym schedule has been developed with the
goal of having a good mix of free play and scheduled events.
C. The climbing wall had Specialized Recreation participants climb on Friday, September 30. It was
such a fun day, especially for those who use wheelchairs.
D. The $25,000 grant from Dr. Pepper/ Snapple will be presented at City Council on October 17"'.
The funds will be used for new playground equipment at Game Farm Park.
VIII. Adjournment
A. The meeting was adjourned at 6:10 pm.
