Advisory Board Meeting Minutes
Friday, March 23, 2012
Auburn City Hall Annex Room #1 - 3:00 pm
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by Trudy Ginther at 3:00 pm. Advisory Board
Members present: Trudy Ginther, Maggie Greenslit, Mark Wayne, Christian
McLendon, and Linda Morris. City Staff /Council present: Market Manager
Joanne Macnab, City Council member Bill Peloza and Parks Secretary Julie
Mehl.
Minutes
Maggie Greenslit moved to approve February minutes, Mark Wayne seconds.
III. Market Manager Report — Joanne Macnab
A. Mailed 63 vendor packets on March 16th. We currently have 15 vendors for
2012 market. 7 farmers, 4 craft, 2 prepared food and 2 processed food.
B. The 2012 Poster design is complete and 250 posters have been ordered.
The bookmarks and two mailers will print in mid April. The King Conservation
District logo will be added to the mailer. Bill Peloza asked if the Auburn Arts
Commission was involved, Joanne responded yes.
C. A volunteer meeting was held on March 15th, the next scheduled meeting is to
be held April 12th (one week before the community volunteer luncheon).
D. The opening day ceremonies are almost complete and include the Kiwanis
Cowboy Breakfast from 7 am to noon, Cowboy musicians, Gabrielle Abbott (all
day), Liz Keeley for the National Anthem, Flag Ceremony — Boy Scout Troop
#401. Joanne sent Troop #401 our market schedule and requested assistance
for set up and take down from the scouts who may need service hours. The
committee approved the request for help but is concerned they may not get
enough helpers for every shift so they will contact the Venture Crew (Boy and
Girl Scouts age 14 — 20) to take a few shifts.
E. Troop #401 will have a booth opening day and will be participating in the
Pocket Flag Project. The scouts teach the public how to fold the American flag
properly, then are placed in mini zip lock bags with a note of thanks and shipped
overseas for distribution. They are meant for soldiers to keep in their military
uniform left chest pocket, over their hearts.
F. Marianne Binetti will give a seminar on July 1" (Senior Appreciation Day)
titled: Growing Younger in the Garden — Tips to keep growing food & flowers no
matter what your age, or the size of your garden. This will be followed by a book
signing of her new book `Vegetable Gardening for Washington and Oregon ".
G. Pawsitive Alliance will do a pet adoption event on Senior Appreciation Day.
They are a non profit, volunteer driven organization that works with animal
shelters and rescue organizations to prevent unwanted or abandoned animals
from being euthanized.
H. Currently have requests for cooking /canning demonstrations out to: GRCC,
Seattle Tilth, Cafe Pacific Catering, WSU Small Farms Program, Blue Rose
Dairy, and Seattle -King County Public Health Department.
I. Joanne has met with Dana Hinman (Public Affairs Manager) and Kevin Snyder
(Planning Director) to discuss revision of signs at Kiss & Ride lot. Kevin will
review Auburn City Code to see if a revision is required and will advise.
J. Will speak at Auburn Garden Club on Tuesday, March 27th and will invite their
group to hold their annual plant sale at the market on opening day.
IV. Council report — Bill Peloza
A. Councilmember Peloza handed out an article titled "Study: Farmers Markets
are Cheapest Outlet for Some Produce ".
B. Bill will check with Rob Roscoe if third party was covered initially, King County
won't need funds nor will Sound Transit.
C. Pacific Mayor Cy Sun, Miss Outstanding Teen Allison Arthur, Algona Mayor
Dave Hill, Mayor Pete Lewis and Miss Auburn have been invited to participate in
opening day ceremonies.
V. Correspondence /Public Input
A. Trudy reports there are new Face book friends. She has updated the Face
book page.
B. Maggie wrote up a piece regarding International Days, Joanne tidied up and
will submit Duanna Richards, Neighborhood Services Manager.
C. The final day of the market falls on September 23, Christian recommends a
tie in to Oddfellas Oktoberfest celebrations. The Mayor will tap the keg at
Oddfellas for the festivities.

VI. Old Business
A. Sponsorship — Doggie Days, Joanne and Linda Morris are actively seeking
sponsorships.
B. Sponsored shopping bags, Ronnie has not responded, Christian will find out
the price for 500. The price for 1000 custom printed bags would be $2000 from
U Line. Christian recommends sharing the sponsorship with Emerald Downs,
each using a side of the bag for their logo.
C. Joanne shared with the board that the KCD grant almost did not go through
as a result of the case `Carey vs. Mason County'. All grant programs come out of
assessment funds as do lawsuit funds.
D. Mark asked Joanne if she has a new city cell phone. Joanne was informed
that Daryl had to make a request to IS. Joanne's city cell has very poor reception
and she misses a large number of calls as a result.
E. Hoodie status — Joanne reports there are two options, the 8 oz. cost is $17.20
each, the 10 oz. cost is $21.40 ea (Jersey brand). Back printing would cost
$1.90 ea. to print the year on the sleeve would cost .80 ea. Minimum order
requirement is 15. Bill requests one for each council member. The colors are
Forest Green with white lettering. Bill adds that he has always had a problem
with the font of the market logo. Joanne suggests we use a cleaner font.
F. The sweatshirts graphics will include the logo, under the logo the lettering will
read "Sundays, June — September ". Joanne added that t shirts will be given to
all art contestants, she will check pricing on "Gildan" brand.
VII. New Business
A. Sponsorship — Joanne is always actively looking for sponsors, Bill Peloza
recommends contacting Waste Management annually. Linda offered to hand out
sponsorship forms.
VII. Board Recommendations /Input
A. Bill Peloza suggests we think about the usage of the Federal Agriculture grant
which was given for promotional use.
B. Trudy asked if we could get Ciscoe from KOMO. Joanne replied that Ciscoe
is coming to the market on July 22nd, but the cost to get a television crew to
attend is $4000. This cost includes six TV spots. Two spots each on KOMO,
KONG and NW Cable News.

C. Joanne wili be speaking on May 2 at WIC as they did not get funded at the
maricet Ievei. It may pass at the state level. The Senior Nutrition program is still
going. Bill offered to email his contad in Washington DC.
IX. Adjoumment
There being no further business, the meeting was adjoumed at 4:01 pm.
