HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-10-2012 (2)City of Auburn Arts Commission, City Hall Annex, One Main, Conference Room 1 Tuesday, July 10, 2012 Meeting Minutes Present: Greg Watson, Alan Abdulkader, Cary Davidson, Nickole Evans, Heidi Harris, Patricia Judd, Dan Norman, Tanya Rottle, Ronie Schwend, Arts Coordinator Maija McKnight, Council Liaison Rich Wagner Excused: Colleen Maloney, Leslie Moore, DeNae McGee I. Call to Order, Approval of Minutes, Introductions and Approval of Minutes: Chair Greg Watson called the meeting to order at 4:35 pm. Nicole Evans moved to approve the June 2012 meeting minutes. Ronie Schwend seconded the motion. All approved. Motion approved. II. Community Center Public Art At the last public art committee meeting the committee discussed the potential amending the public art contract with Virginia Paquette in relation to the Community Center. The previous contract included the integrated artwork of two separate installations. The committee recommended that the contract be modified to allow the artist to work on the artwork that can be constructed prior to the completion of the building. She will create it to the specifications of the space, but the artwork will be finished and stored in a City facility until the Community Center has been constructed. Discussion continued. Greg Watson moved that the recommendation of the committee be approved to recommend to council and mayor that the contract be renegotiated. Pat Judd seconded the motion. All approved. Motion approved. III. International Farmers Market — Student Art Poster Competition Commissioner Ronie Schwend presented the top three posters that were selected by the Visual Arts Committee and presented the one recommended to serve as the poster for the 2013 Auburn International Farmers Market. The artwork was done as part of a Auburn High School Graphic Design Class taught by Diane Saar. Nicole Evans moved to approve the recommendation of the Visual Arts Committee for the 2013 Farmers Market Poster; Tanya Rottle seconded the motion. Motion approved. Commissioners extended their appreciation and gratitude to all the participating students and were impressed at the quality and diversity of artwork presented. IV. 2012 -2013 BRAVO Performing Arts Series Staff Julie Brewer distributed a calendar and brochure draft of the BRAVO shows that will be part of the upcoming Performing Arts Season. The performances, outreach strategies, and marketing plan was discussed. V. Retreat Review Commissioners participated in a day -long retreat on June 23 and notes are currently being compiled and will be distributed and discussed at a future meeting. Discussion continued. VI. ArtRageous Staff McKnight provided an overview of the activities that would be part of the ArtRageous festival on Saturday, August 4, 2012 as well as the general marketing plan. Discussion continued VII. Updates /Announcements /Upcoming Events Soundbites is the new concert series in downtown on Fridays at noon in July.
