Those board members attending in addition to Mr Landrud were Jan Speer, Arnie Galli and Lonnie Sundal Also present at the meeting were Parks Maintenance Manager Mike Mdler, Environmental Planner Jamie Kelly and Parks Secretary ]ulie Mehl II Minutes The July minutes were reviewed and approved. III Correspondence/Pubhc Input IV Old Business Mike Miller has brought an impressive ten photos of trees throughout town for the board to consider nominating as a Heritage Tree Addresses for the trees are 117 K St NE, 626 — g"' St SE, 707 — 8"' St NE, 620 H St NE, 408 M St NE, 1125 4`h St NE, M St NE (south of church), 708 _ 8", St NE, Church of Jesus Christ on M St NE and 41 H St NE The Red Maple tree at 117 K St NE is the board favorite V New Business VI Board Recommendations/Input Bryce would like to change the term "Significant Tree" to "Heritage Tree". Lonnie motions to make the change, Arnie seconds Bryce would also like to nominate two Heritage trees per year. Bryce and Jamie went to take a look at the Tulip tree on 4`h and talked to the owner about restoration She is concerned about dropping limbs, Bryce assured her the tree would be ok and that she would not need to remove the tree I AUBURN * MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED Bryce reports the Department of Natural Resources grants are for municipal tree surveys & inventory only. Arnie asked if all past Significant Trees are posted on the nty's website. Jan ofFered to go around town and take pictures of past Significant trees so we can get them posted. Lonnie asked if the ciry will pay for horticulture services until we have a certifed Horticultunst on staff VII. Department Report Mike Miller is hoping to get a neighborhood tree planting grant started at H St SE It would be a nice Eagle Scout pro�ect Richard Valenti wdl work on selecting an appropriate tree variety, then we will approach the neighborhood folks to see if they would be able to care for the trees for the frst two years Jan mentioned she would love to have a neighborhood tree planting pro�ect on 37`"' street SE near Ballard Park. Mike suggested fiowering plum trees. Jamie Kelly speaalizes in clearing and grading tree issues but gets approximately 8 — 10 tree related calls per week, mostly pertaining to folks wanting to remove trees on their property. The city sends someone out to take a look at tree in question, then sends a letter with suggestions on how to remove. Not having a certified arbonst makes it challenging. Jamie is trying to keep track of all tree related issues, most are on private property Bryce added that the cities of Kirkland, Redmond & Medina have a permit process for tree removal on private property Mike Miller reports the 4`" of July festival was a huge hit this year with record attendance. The Wednesday Kids Summerstage concerts have been successful as well as the Friday Soundbites concerts. Mike also reports the Game Farm Park playground has been completed and new entry signs have been installed at Roegner, Mill Pond and Cameron parks. VIII.
