3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN,
WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SUBMIT PROJECT
4 APPLICATIONS TO KING COUNTY TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A PARK AND
5 OPEN SPACE FUTURE FUNDING INITIATIVE
6
WHEREAS, the King County Council and Executive are
7
8 considering a county-wide park and open space funding
9 initiative; and
10 WHEREAS, the future funding initiative will be divided
11
into two funding categories, local programs and critical
12
resource programs ; and
13
14 WHEREAS, the City of Auburn has identified many projects
15 which qualify for the local program section of the funding
16 initiative; and
17
WHEREAS, the City of Auburn has natural resources and
18
environmentally-sensitive areas which would qualify for the
19
20 Critical Resource Program; and
21 WHEREAS, King County has requested the City of Auburn to
22 submit projects to be considered in the proposed future
23
funding initiative

1 NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Auburn,

Washington, in a regular meeting duly assembled herewith
3
resolves that
4
5 Section 1 . The Mayor of the City of Auburn is herewith
6 authorized to submit project applications for the King County
7 Parks and Open Space Future Funding Initiative
8
Section 2 . The City of Auburn projects to be submitted
9
for funding from the local programs share of the future
10
11 funding initiative are included in Attachment "A"
12 Section 3 . The City of Auburn projects to be submitted
13 for consideration from the critical resource share of the
14
future funding initiative are prioritized and are also
15
included in Attachment "A"
16
17 Section 4 . The Mayor is hereby authorized to implement
18 such administrative procedures as necessary to carry out the
19 directives of this legislation

King County Park and Open Space Future Funding Initiative

6 Local Projects Prioritized
7
8 1 Les Gove Park Addition
9 Acquire land along Auburn Way South to provide more
10 flexibility for the use of Les Gove Park This would
allow the City to provide a better entrance into the park,
11 landscaping along Auburn Way South, more parking, and
12 possible reconfiguration of future facilities in the park,
including the library and other facilities
13
14 2 Renovate Library for Community to
15
Renovate the Auburn Public Library for community purposes
16 should the City decide to construct a new library
Potential community uses could include public meeting
17 rooms, craft areas, space for senior activities, etc
18 Because neither a plan nor a cost estimate has been
developed, the budget may not be enough to complete a
19 total remodel
20
21 3 Athletic Facility Redevelopment
22 Two baseball/softball fields will be created at GSA Park
and the soccer fields at Brannan Park will be improved

1 4 Rotary Park Redevelopment
2 Redevelop Rotary Park to include an adjacent one-acre
3 parcel dedicated to the City by the developers of River
Walk

5 5 Skate Park
6
Develop a skate park for skateboard and in-line skates, if
7 the current study determines a need
8
9 6 Athletic Complex Acquisition
10 Acquire 20+ acres of land in Auburn for active park use,
11 with an emphasis on youth athletic facilities
12
Critical Resource Area Projects Prioritized

1 Mill Creek Corridor
15
To purchase various wetlands and buffer areas within the
16 Mill Creek Corridor
17
18 2 Blue Heron Rookery
19 To acquire land and preserve the site located at the
20 intersection of Peasley Canyon and West Valley Highway for
the heron rookery and other forms of wildlife
21
22 3 Olson Canyon Farmstead
23
To develop the farmstead into an historical and
24 educational facility for the community

The Auburn City Council adopted Resolution No2739 authorizing projects for
consideration for the county-wide park and open space funding initiative. We are
pleased to provide a certified copy of Resolution No 2739 for consideration by
the Metropolitan King County Council.
