HomeMy WebLinkAbout2799 (2) 1 RESOLUTION NO. 2 7 9 9 2 3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, SUPPORTING THE LOCATION OF AN AMTRAK STATION IN 4 THE CITY OF AUBURN 5 6 WHEREAS, Auburn has become a regional transportation 7 center served by major freeways and is well positioned to 8 serve the South King/North Pierce County area with passenger 9 rail ; and 10 11 WHEREAS, the SuperMall of the Great Northwest, Emerald 12 Downs thoroughbred racetrack, and the Muckleshoot Casino are 13 potential AMTRAK destinations; and 14 WHEREAS, the City of Auburn is designated to receive 15 16 Regional Transit Authority (RTA) commuter rail service and a 17 regional transit center; and 18 WHEREAS, the Auburn City Council supports a balanced and 19 comprehensive transportation system for all who live in, work 20 in, or visit the City of Auburn and the Puget Sound region; 21 22 and 23 24 25 26 Resolution No 2799 January 9, 1997 Page 1 1 WHEREAS, the City of Auburn conducted a Commuter Rail 2 Station Siting Study which designated the City' s preferred 3 4 location for a rail station and was adopted by the City 5 Council in Resolution No 2581 on December 19, 1994 ; and 6 WHEREAS, the City of Auburn is undertaking a study to 7 update the Auburn Downtown Plan in preparation for 8 construction of a regional transit center; and 9 10 WHEREAS, Auburn wishes to include an AMTRAK station in 11 such plans and to provide the necessary facilities to 12 accomplish the location of the station; 13 NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, 14 WASHINGTON, IN A REGULAR MEETING DULY ASSEMBLED, HEREWITH 15 16 RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS 17 Section 1 . The City Council of the City of Auburn 18 supports inclusion of facilities to support AMTRAK service 19 Section 2 . The City Council of the City of Auburn 20 supports resumption of AMTRAK service to Auburn 21 22 23 24 25 26 Resolution No 2799 January 9, 1997 Page 2 1 Section 3 .
