HomeMy WebLinkAbout2916 1 RESOLUTION NO 2 9 1 6 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, 3 WASHINGTON, REGARDING THE DISPLAY OF THE NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED POW/MIA FLAG 4 5 WHEREAS, there is still over ten thousand veterans listed 6 as prisoners of war and/or missing in action; and 7 WHEREAS, the City of Auburn is committed to showing our 8 respect and gratitude to those Americans who are prisoners of 9 war or who are classified as missing in action; and 10 WHEREAS, in keeping faith with these Americans and their 11 families, we continue to remember and commemorate their 12 sacrifices; and 13 WHEREAS, the POW/MIA flag has been nationally recognized; 14 NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, 15 WASHINGTON, IN A REGULAR MEETING DULY ASSEMBLED, HEREWITH 16 RESOLVES THAT 17 Section 1. So that the people of Auburn will not forget 18 the sacrifices of those members of the United States armed 19 forces who, after the termination of hostilities, remain 20 prisoners of war or missing in action, as well as the 21 sacrifices of missing United States nonmilitary personnel and 22 civilians , the flag of the National League of Prisoner-of- 23 War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA) Families, a black and white 24 banner symbolizing the United States ' missing, shall be 25 26 Resolution No 2916 February 5, 1998 Page 1 1 displayed in front of the Auburn City Hall on each and every 2 day that the Flags of the United States and the state of 3 Washington are displayed The display of the POW/MIA flag 4 shall serve as a reminder to people everywhere of our 5 country' s firm resolve to achieve the fullest possible 6 accounting for every member of the United States Armed Forces, 7 and the United States nonmilitary personnel and civilians 8 Section 2 This Resolution shall cease to apply and the 9 display requirement for the POW/MIA flag shall terminate upon 10 a determination by the President of the United States that the 11 fullest possible accounting has been made of all members of 12 the Armed Forces and civilian employees of the United States 13 who have been identified as prisoner of war or missing in 14 action in Southeast Asia 15 Section 3 .
