3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN,
4 WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND FINANCE DIRECTOR TO
ISSUE A CHECK IN THE AMOUNT OF $1, 000 00 TO THE LEAGUE OF
5 WOMEN VOTERS FOR THE PURPOSE OF THE LIVABLE COMMUNITY FAIR

7 WHEREAS, the Puget Sound region is experiencing a vital,
8 vibrant economic climate and an accompanying pattern of rapid
9 growth and population expansion; and
10 WHEREAS, the region recognizes the need to retain a
11 sense of community" as the region continues to grow; and
12 WHEREAS, out of a sense of a need for new concepts in
13 regional planning associated with these issues, there has
14 emerged a set of ideas that emphasize `Livable Community'
15 concepts such as walkable neighborhoods, opportunities for
16 interaction with neighbors around common daily activities,
17 multi-use patterns of living, working, and shopping, and the
18 rebirth of `community' ; and
19 WHEREAS, there is increased recognition of the benefits
20 to the environment, transportation efficiency and
21 strengthening of civic involvement that can result from these
22 `Livable Community' ideas; and

WHEREAS, the presentation of choices available to
24
regional residents and consumers regarding lifestyle patterns,

I consumer goods, and civic involvement, can lend themselves to
2 the atmosphere of a 'Livable Community Fair '
3 NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN,
4 WASHINGTON, IN A REGULAR MEETING DULY ASSEMBLED, HEREWITH
5 RESOLVES THAT
6 Section 1. The City of Auburn does hereby endorse and
7
offer its support in the amount of $1, 000 00 to the League of
8
Women Voters as a co-sponsor for the above-referenced Fair, to
9
be held at the Seattle Center on November 6-8 , 1998
10
Section 2 . The Mayor and the Finance Director of the
11
12 City of Auburn are herewith authorized to expend $1, 000 00 in
13 support of the 'Livable Community Fair '
14 Section 3 . The Mayor is hereby authorized to implement
15 such administrative procedures as may be necessary to carry
16 out the directives of this legislation
